A child’s access to an excellent education and the potential for a bright and productive future should not be determined by that child’s street address, background, the careers of parents or guardians, or the luck of the draw. That access is truly a right, and it is the obligation of schools to secure that right on behalf of the children and families they serve. Yet, here in the great city of Boston – home to some of the finest educational institutions in the country and blessed with significant funding for both public and private education – the majority of our children are not enrolled in a school that will prepare them for success in college and careers. For families and practitioners, the divide of district, charter, and Catholic schools is closing. In its place stands a chasm of greater consequence – the gap between children of Boston who have the fortune to attend a high-performing school, and remaining students enrolled in schools that are falling short. Boston’s families deserve and are demanding more great schools.Boston Schools Fund (“the Fund”) is a non-profit organization that aims to dramatically increase the number of high-performing district, charter, and Catholic schools. Over the next five years, the Fund will commit significant financial and administrative support to increase the number of seats in high-performing schools by almost one-third, putting Boston on track to offer a high-performing school to the majority of its children by 2025.
