Over my two years as a senior associate, I provided tax due diligence for 150+ platform and add-on acquisitions for private equity and corporate clients. On the majority of my projects, I supported my engagement leaders as the primary point of contact between my team and our clients, investment bankers, target management, and legal counsel. Beyond the normal tax due diligence work, I received increased exposure to more complex and tax technical matters, such as top-side PE fund continuations, tax treaty/LOB analyses, and coordinating with foreign tax specialists to achieve tax-deferred rollover for non-US shareholders. I also got more involved with developing client relationships, including multiple on-site tax trainings for my primary private equity clients.

I provided tax due diligence for 120+ platform and add-on acquisitions for private equity clients by reviewing relevant tax returns and support documentation and leading calls with target management and their tax advisors to discuss the target's tax profile.On the tax structuring side, I prepared models on key transaction tax issues, including NOL limitations, basis step-up, and attribute availability, for transactions with enterprise values ranging from $5 million to over $3 billion. Similarly, I drafted transaction structure plans, including related tax consequences, to ensure a tax-efficient acquisition of the target by the client.

I taught the ACC 200: Principles of Accounting course to a class of 40 students. This course covered introductory topics included presentation of financial statements, recording journal entries, revenue recognition, inventory costing, depreciation, ratio analysis, product costing, budgeting, and CVP analysis. As I taught during the Winter 2020 semester, I helped transitioned this course to fully-online learning in response to COVID-19.

I was the teaching assistant for three sections of the ACC 305: Principles of Accounting 2 course. As a TA, I hosted 150 hours of in-person and virtual (Zoom) office hours to work one-on-one with students. I also transitioned course content and assessments from the old LMS (LearningSuite) to Canvas and created new exam assessments covering intermediate accounting topics such as revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases, stock compensation, diluted EPS, and accounting for income taxes (ASC 740).

I assisted the Senior Business Analyst in bridging the gap between BYU's IT department and the finance division of BYU's Continuing Education department. I interviewed and worked closely with CE's accountants to document the budgeting, accounts receivable, and payment processing workflows, and proposed system improvements to the controllers and associate deans. Working with IT and the computer operations teams, we spec'd, developed, tested, and implemented changes to CE's ERP (PeopleSoft) and LMS (Canvas) systems. Following system rollouts, I assisted impacted accountants and system users by creating user guides and providing process walkthroughs.In 2018, I received the BYU CE Student Employee Recognition Award and Vision Award.

I worked with the SALT compliance team with my primary responsibility being to prepare assigned state partnership and corporate tax returns, which I completed in 65 percent of the time budgeted and took on additional return assignments. In addition, I tracked and helped resolve 40+ state notices and inquiries dealing with a variety of tax issues, including estimate/extension payments, power of attorney registrations, and property taxes.Outside of compliance, I utilized my RPA knowledge from my time as a research assistant to assist in the automation of preparing state corporate tax returns.
