My name is Ben Brechtel, and I am currently a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The degree that I am pursuing at CU is Information Science. Information Science is an interesting major as it teaches skills related to both computers and people. In other words, students studying information science know how to do things like code (I have knowledge both Python, SQL and C++) and they also know how to do research, conduct interviews, use ethics in technology design and use statistical skills to make sense of that data. In addition to going to school I have also had some professional experience. This included working at an equine vet facility as well as Chick-fil-A. Both jobs taught me valuable lessons in teamwork and professionalism, which are things that you do not necessarily learn in school. Hard work is something that I try my best to embrace. From experience I have learned that going halfway on work or anything in life is a recipe for disaster. If you are going to do it; do it. Otherwise don’t bother.
