Senior Software Engineer
CurrentLeading in the organization's efforts to solidify a new foundational, target state enterprise data architecture.
Senior Software Engineer
Spearheaded in the development and implementation of cybersecurity tools and services to secure assets of the 4th largest credit union in the U.S. In anticipation of various threats, SAST (Static Application Security Testing), DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing), and IAST (Interactive Application Security Testing) are all performed and provided as capabilities for ad-hoc and automated analysis within the organization.Since joining the team, I have both implemented SCA (Software Composition Analysis) capabilities into our solution and created an Azure DevOps Extension to allow our ad-hoc scans to be run by other technical personnel and for enforcement of secure coding practices to take place within each team's CI/CD Pipelines.Prior to departing the team, I had worked to plan and begin implementation of the next state architecture of the end-to-end solution (leveraging Webhooks, Functions, and a NoSQL backend). This would enable not only the further gathering of data from inception/detection through to resolution/mitigation, but also would enable the system to be run in realtime at scale.
Software Engineer
Developed and managed the full-stack (C#, ASP .NET, JavaScript, & Microsoft SQL Server), end-to-end application for the membership and deposit account opening process.Launched a new, internal, staff-facing membership and deposit account opening site that leveraged the same backend as the consumer-facing site. The site utilized more modern technologies and patterns (like real-time validation and the ability to alter certain data elements client-side), making it easier, faster, and more secure for staff to complete the end-to-end application process in less time than ever before. Telemetry was built-in to the product from the start allowing for the observation of a faster perceived PLT (page load time), as well as faster PLT as a whole.Completed an in-place alteration of a denormalized database to reach a better level of normalization with minimal downtime (less than 10 minutes in total) and no data loss allowing for the development of new, more advanced features and functionality.Built a fully custom, structured telemetry solution (leveraging Splunk for real-time analytics) so that the organization can have metrics around performance, availability, and issues experienced in the Production environment.
Software Engineer
I lead in an effort to transition the frontend of Xbox Forums to the Answers website, completing yet another UI overhaul. This not only enhanced and refined the overall experience for the End User on our site, it also added such capabilities as allowing the user to utilize their Xbox Gamertag instead of just the usual Microsoft profile. After completing the launch on a UI Redesign from the previous fiscal year, I fixed various accessibility bugs to bring our site to the new Microsoft accessibility standards and make our site the most accessible in our group.I rearchitectured our static file deployment on https://answers.microsoft.com to be externally hosted with file versioning, proper caching controls, proper bundling/minification, and source mapping (for debugging while in our development environment). After the changes implemented directly by me, the overall PLT (Page Load Time) for our site decreased by an average of an additional 2 seconds and our 90% PLT decreased by an average of an additional 4 seconds, SPLT (Second+ Page Load Time) was decreased by half the amount of time it was prior, our overall QoS (Quality of Service) has reached an average of 99.99%, and our overall reliability has reached an average of 99.999%. Every page now loads in under 6 seconds, on average, (on a high speed connection) and 8 seconds, on average, (on more than 90% of the clients visiting our site) because of the improvements I have made.I was solely responsible for a net increase of 16.56824040269114% in our server-side code coverage (on 47,212 blocks and 24,195 lines of code). I also increased our JavaScript code coverage by 12.6167% (on 18,184 blocks and 13,583 lines of code).Since joining the company, I have earned the status of Leadership Giver from the //give program. The contributions I have directly made and volunteering I have personally done has meant over $10,000 being donated (with matching contributions from Microsoft) to charity since joining the company.
Software Engineer
October 2016 - June 2017Worked on the consumer-facing https://answers.microsoft.com website. Initially led in the development of prototype exhibiting the utilization of modern web development technologies (ReactJS, Mocha, Chai, Sinon, Chutzpah, SASS, Webpack, TypeScript, Yarn, and NodeJS) and how leveraging specific technologies could improve our development time, build time, and site load time and performance. After some initial suggestions, was able to lower page load time by 500 ms after analyzing site inefficiencies in loading extra data and how we were handling loading specific data within some of our most frequently visited pages. Improved perceived page load time by implementing the dynamic loading of major portions of the site.Owned and implemented all of the site's client-based telemetry. Set the standard for measurements in my organization of how our user's experience can be improved by what's reported.Lead in site redesign that improved the overall look/feeling of the site, ensured accessibility standards are met (with review by other departments at the company), supported 26 different language locales worldwide, and integrated with standards for header/footer and overall look and feel being encouraged company-wide.After the initial rollout was completed the average overall page load time improved by about 2 seconds on average, site traffic (unique visitors) increased two-fold, and QoS (Quality of Service - which helps in measuring health of our site and communication between it and our APIs) increased from being between 98-99% to consistently 99.9%.Position(s) Held:-Lead for a committee within Microsoft for //give efforts - assisted in philanthropic causes with donations of resources in time and money.-Lead a committee within Microsoft that developed internal tools, as side-projects to regular work, to assist in day-to-day business efforts and initiatives.
Software Engineer
January 2014 - January 2015Performed work on creating the next generation version and developing on the existing version of HBI (High Business Impact), scalable (capable of processing over 150 GB per second) systems vital to all of Microsoft and securing its assets. All systems required high availability (99.99% availability at all times) and low latency. Some functions within the system included code signing, (static and dynamic) certificate creation, (static and dynamic) certificate maintenance, asset vulnerability testing, and asset archiving. Much of this work revolved around backend technologies (SQL Server, SSIS, Relational Databases, and Web APIs). I was one of the primary DB developers during this work.January 2015 - June 2015Worked on an innovation team which set out to prove new projects internally at Microsoft. Most notably I lead an effort to apply IOT to the Open Space concept in the work environment via a Universal App (UWP) and more. We proved out the scenario of letting people sit wherever they wanted and automatically detecting where they sat so others could act accordingly. Other data was also tracked, logged, and communicated out through telemetry and other means/measures. Also improved the speed at which the data for IOT could be utilized by 5x so real-time analysis could be done.June 2015 - October 2016Assisted in creation and consolidation of incident management systems at Microsoft. Helped to retire some old systems and assisted in the creation of a new feature on how we transfer customer support cases at Microsoft. After a re-org, I helped to plan the next version of a customer service agent facing system and then owned the telemetry, auditing, feedback, and preferences portions of the platform. My team primarily designed and developed re-usable pages throughout the platform and created the framework (using AngularJS, Gulp, NodeJS, and various other latest technologies) for my whole organization to leverage in their development.
Software Development Engineer Intern
Contributed to a project to automate program code and SQL scripting work estimated to eventually save the company up to $600 million. Learned and developed prototype applications implementing different methodologies of secure network authentication (some of which used WCF (Windows Communication Foundation)) and programming using MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) architecture in a Modern (Windows 8) application.
Web Development Intern
Responsible for managing and administering parts of the database backend for the website (as well as parts of the website's CMS (Content Management System)). Created over twenty-five unique stored procedures since hire. Implemented new design methodologies that encourage interactive design with less intervention required by the end user and more automation. Built new reporting structure reliant on Microsoft Reports and/or dynamic SQL report creation/processing.
Software Development Engineer Intern
Lead programmer in a POC (Proof of Concept) related to new methodologies, working directly with an Architect at the company, for handling large amounts of Enterprise data (utilizing multiple servers and (Microsoft SQL Server) databases) so the data could be accessed in real-time. Improved access speeds by over five times what they were previously by programming a new framework. Practiced skills of being a project lead, project manager, systems administrator, documentation writer, and database administrator.
Programmer
Performed database administration, data quality assurance, and data processing starting out. Went on to develop a stand-alone C# program to automatically analyze previously logged data (in text files) and output results relevant for different case scenarios of data analysis and to build the encryption/decryption functionality to store configuration settings and various other data as well as to develop the Modbus TCP/IP that was to be used in different portions of another program being developed. Also helped with various other consulting and technical analysis roles as needed within the company.
Pre-Professional Software Engineer
Programmed a web application (using PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and the Dojo Toolkit) to show data in real-time as provided by the TimeSeries DataBlade of the Informix DBMS (Database Management System). After initial inception, project later became a framework for how similar applications should be developed and was published publicly and used by sales teams worldwide, following some further development.
