Currently I am working with the Sustainable Energy Hub at UNDP as an advisor in innovation and programme support, after working for two years with the Small Island Developing States team as a data scientist. I also lead a documentary production company focused on international nonprofits and cultural and ecological conservation, and have just completed my first feature documentary in partnership with several indigenous communities of Peru. The Diversita camera integrates machine learning on the edge, network connectivity, and intelligent cloud services to allow a real-time window into the lives of animals. It can classify images of over 5000 species onboard the device, and then remotely transmits these labeled photos - to enable efficient, near-real time methods of conservation research and management. Our conversations with ecologists, conservationists, and wildlife researchers revealed several use cases for this technology such as protected area management, genetic sampling, invasive species removal, or even the study of changing icebergs or forests.
