Software Lead For The Tactical Ground Reporting System (Tigr)
Co-created the Tactical Ground Reporting (TIGR) system, a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) initiative to provide a multimedia tool for mission preparation, execution, debriefing, and analysis to the Company and below. General Chiarelli said, “It empowers our front line leaders like never before. It taps into the creative capabilities of the American soldier. … Amazing”. TIGR was used throughout Iraq and Afghanistan, and was transitioned from DARPA to the US Army for long term support. General Petraeus said, "This TIGR system is good stuff ... We're going to support this. The lieutenants of the world, the sergeants of the world like it and use it and we're going to support them on it”.Co-developed the technology in TIGR for DARPA, before merging with Ascend Intelligence LLC, to provide a complete software, hardware, training, and deployment solution. Ascend Intelligence LLC was acquired by General Dynamics C4 Systems in January 2010.Responsible for managing the technical development and execution of TIGR for DARPA. Briefed and represented TIGR’s capabilities, technical details, and provided technical support to 1/1 Cav, 2/101st, 1/4th ID, and 2/3rd ID of the US Army, CENTCOM, PM DCGS, PM FBCB2, US Parks Police, DARPA’s TIGR advisory board, United States Military Academy, TRADOC, US Marine Corps, as well as many industry and research partners.Program Manager for Ascend Intelligence’s $20 million dollar prime contract supporting the US Army’s Human Terrain System’s IT needs. President
Founder of networking services consulting group, working with a wide variety of industries to develop and maintain network infrastructure, servers, and software projects. Designed and implemented custom network management solutions for dozens of different environments, some with thousands of servers, providing fault detection, alarming, resource trending, and configuration revision control.Co-developed bioinformatics software for organizing and setting up DNA sequence data for assembly and editing with Phred, Phrap, and Consed. Developed microscopy software to support rankings of microscope slide images and batch importing of slide images into the Open Microscopy Environment in support of chromosomal abnormalities research.Designed, project managed, and implemented multiple large networking infrastructure (routers, circuits, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers) and computing infrastructure (servers, os, apps, backups, e-commerce) deployments and relocations including environmental’s, power distribution, and telecom provisioning. Performed detailed security audits and assessments, as well as “after the fact” incident analysis for large and small clients that resulted in changes in equipment, implementation, and policies. Designed, implemented, and maintained complete firewall systems (screening routers, statefull filtering, proxies, logging, tamper detection, IDS, DMZ, VPN, redundancy, etc.) for healthcare, telecom, manufacturing, engineering, ISP, non-profit, research, education, and software industries.
Vice President, Director Of Engineering
Co-founded Ambient Computing, responsible for research and development of system architectures and software to support distributed management and control for low power embedded devices.Principal Investigator of a $100,000 National Science Foundation Small Business Innovative Research grant in 2002. Developed wireless hardware and software for use in energy management, remote sensing, and industrial monitoring and control applications, including custom circuits, USB host controller, printed circuit boards, and embedded system device driver software. Developed embedded web based interfaces to a variety of sensors and controllers including thermostats.Architected and co-developed a custom 802.11 wireless Ethernet solution tailored for the cable industry. Complete solution included custom upgradeable AP’s, captive web portals, secure authentication and billing, support for subscription and prepaid calling card accounts, and back office system integration for provisioning and management interfaces using a web based system. Product was deployed in a field trial in September 2002, followed by a production system in March 2003.
Director Of Engineering
Co-founded NetGames USA in 1998, responsible for managing product development and insuring product delivery. Co-developed a scalable, fault tolerant system that provided real time score tracking, statistics collection and presentation, and ranking for online game players, including tamper proof logging, and Denial of Service (DOS) protection.Implemented the web interface providing gaming statistics for online game players, which grew to support over one million online game players and generated 2.5 million page views per month, and then was transitioned to Microsoft when they purchased NetGames USA in 2000, and the technology was incorporated into the Xbox Live system and software such as HALO2.
Member Of Technical Staff
Member of research team developing DSL and voice over packet network prototypes in 1997, responsible for IP services. Responsible for assessing technologies and requirements, and developing network integration plans for the SprintLink Internet backbone, back office control and billing networks, frame relay, and ATM backbone integration. Represented the Sprint Long Distance network’s requirements and capabilities to customers, vendors, and standards bodies including the Internet Engineering Task Force and the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Forum. In 1998 was promoted to Lab Manager of a laboratory used for hardware evaluation, proof of concept development, and systems integration testing. In that role, expanded the lab facility and staff, and was responsible for planning and daily operations of the laboratory.
Network Security
Entrusted with maintaining the security of Black & Veatch’s world wide network serving over 6000 employees at 42 regional offices and 12 international sites. Consulted in the design of client networks and solved connectivity and security issues involving Black & Veatch's internal network and its connection to several business partners’ networks. Developed and documented the firm’s Internet Services Architecture Specification, which detailed services and their implementations to maximize the firm’s Internet investment, while minimizing risks associated with having an Internet presence. Duties included maintaining network infrastructure components, in particular, the firm’s firewalls, nameservers, ftp server, network management station, routers, remote access server, and both ATM and ethernet switches.
Research Engineer
On the Rapidly Deployable Radio Network project, was responsible for the development of the system architecture for a wireless beamforming network prototype as described in IEEE JSAC April 1999. Designed and implemented a PCI based host network interface to the beamforming radio, including writing the Linux device driver. On the MAGIC Project, designed multiple hardware components of an OC-12 (622Mbps) ATM interface for a Digital AN2 ATM switch. This included performing the PCB layout, as well as component, board, and system level design, testing, and integration. FORE Systems, Inc. (now Marconi) released the first OC-12 interface for an ATM switch, but the KU gateway was operational only one month later, and had exclusive features desired by networking researchers including extensive traffic measurement capabilities, and both credit and rate based flow control as described in IEEE Network May 1996. The work on the MAGIC project exposed shortcomings in ATM WAN implementations, the result of ATM switch buffer design and these buffers interaction with the TCP flow control mechanism. The characterization of this problem, and the development of solutions resulted in a Masters Thesis, a version of which was presented at High Performance Distributed Computing 4 in 1995.
