Since 2001 I had the pleasure of serving as an Army Reservist in the 2nd/17th Royal New South Wales Regiment and also for a period at 25th/49th Royal Queensland Regiment. Being ultimately responsible for completing various tasks set by commanders and being ultimately responsible for the actions of my team, my time in the Army Reserves provided me a different perspective to management and leadership not available in the finance industry. I have completed extensive training in leadership and motivating employees and I was required to formulate, implement and deliver structured training plans to team members and trainees to improve and sustain skills and knowledge.I learnt the value of initiative and developed a strong analysis and decision making capability using a range of frameworks. Most of all I developed the ability to apply these skills without sleep, while carrying 50kgs and after walking 15kms a day!

Late 2010 was the step into establishing my own Financial Services business. Feeling that there were limitations in the relationship and customer service that salaried advisers could provide, I felt a different approach could provide more value to clients. Resource Wealth Pty. Ltd. was an amalgamation between AWS Financial and Primoris Financial.In my experience I found that individuals and families needed financial advice in limited areas regularly rather than complex, expensive and broad ranging advice at limited times. Resource Wealth was established based on two requirements; self-employed financial advisers developing long term, single contact partnerships with clients and an ability to provide low cost, high value tailored coaching-based advice to clients that provided real financial benefits in the long term. Resource Wealth offered simple, easy to understand advice to answer those financial unknowns. I believe confusion leads to hesitation and hesitation leads to poor decisions. Advice should be based on the premise of education, where knowledge is imparted to clients so they can be confident taking control of their financial future. This venture was very challenging and rewarding and I used my ability to communicate to provide an extensive library of information to individuals so they can understand the benefits and consequences of a range of financial issues.

As a phone based Life Insurance Adviser, I provided advice to a wide range of clients all over Australia and to expatriates around the world. I quickly learnt how important appropriate and comprehensive personal risk insurance is in protecting the financial security of a family and how important it was for me to conduct thorough research to provide the highest quality advice.Within this role, I provided the advice, assisted with the processing of life insurance applications and provided regular reviews for a pool of over 1000 clients. Being a high volume environment, my time management skills assisted me manage high workloads.Identifying a gap in the services offered by xLife, I developed an online and phone based superannuation comparison and advice service that was launched nationally in 2010. My ability to clearly articulate and communicate ideas was identified by external stakeholders and I was chosen to provide a presentation on online insurance underwriting/claims engines and integration into advice and engagement models to an audience of approx. 100 global life insurance company directors and senior executive at the MunichRe/Allfinanz Global Directors Conference in 2010
