Part of my Bachelors included student research projects with clients from big organisations/companies. I joined a team 15 students to do a research placement, working on a research policy recommendation paper for Amnesty International, advising on shrinking civic space in increasingly illiberal regimes (for example Turkey and Hungary). The role included wider team meetings, working in subgroups, before transitioning to online meetings as the pandemic had begun during the process. Along with doing research on the report, I was also a devils advocate, meaning I always had to think about different points of view in meetings and challenging colleagues information for the sake of compromise and growth. The research was finished with a 104 page report with policy recommendations for Amnesty International, and this coupled with a presentation for our clients of the report (though it had to be completed online in the midst of the first Covid lockdown). The skills I developed in this venture included independent research and a fast pace working environment, analytical skills where I had to process data and bits of information and understand their wider meaning. Furthermore, this role included heavy communication, between colleagues and with our clients from Amnesty International, along with IT and organising sub groups and meeting individual deadlines.

This gave me office experience and field work:- Organising folders and documents for the office and assisting secretaries with their tasks (online platforms or on paper).- I was also serving refreshments for patients, either in their rooms or in the canteen. Different patients had their own requirements which meant memorisation was essential. Interpersonal skills was also important depending on the certain needs of each patient. - Organising rooms and obtaining equipment or certain activities, such as exercise classes and assisting instructors. - As I had a strict schedule and only certain allocated time for each task, good time management was needed and occasional effect multitasking.
