As a member of the leadership team my role was to help continue the growth of the Figure Eight data annotation platform. I came into Figure Eight during a period of great change for the company. My goal was to step into the senior technical leadership role that was left vacant by the departed CTO and VP of engineering. I lead the technical delivery organization including all Software Engineering, IT, DevOps and Machine Learning teams through the successful acquisition and integration into Appen. During my time I revamped the software development process to increase delivery velocity to successfully release a variety of features into production including machine learning assisted object annotation, machine learning assisted transcription, design system updates, a workflow and work routing engine and the initial rollout of both Kubernetes and Kafka. Post acquisition during the earn out period I also was asked to step in to run the Professional Services, Support and Documentation teams. Post acquisition tasks also involved the integration of the Appen and Figure Eight engineering teams to have them use the same scrum based processes and ceremonies.

Mayfield Robotics's purpose is to bring the first adorable autonomous device into the home. Software is key to adding the artificial intelligence required to the pile of plastic, metal and silicon into a lovable member of the family. As a member of the leadership team, I lead the development of the firmware, software and integrations including the development of our new depth sensor, the control systems and protocols, the cloud back-end and the mobile application used to interact and interface with the customer. I have taken the team from 4 full time engineers to ~20 full time robotics engineers. In addition I was responsible for contracting, coordinating and managing 20-30 external contract resources to fill specialized temporary resource needs.My job is to make sure the team has everything that they need to get a high quality job done. This means that some days I spend the entire day recruiting and hiring and other days I spend the day helping QA and troubleshoot the product. I believe that as a leader you should roll your sleeves up and get your hands dirty when required, while also making sure the team is kept focused on the strategic long term goals.

Ben has been associated with the U1 engineering team since 1996 when he was a member of original Ambrosia team at Open Horizon. Additional engagements included financial valuations of a software as a services firm delivering a financial services software platform for venture capital debit investment; delivery of custom software solutions for a software as a service call center application and technology advice and implementation assistance for a web based gaming platform.

Totality was purchased by MCI/Verizon. As one of the Sr. Technologists at Totality we worked to create a company that was able to manage the largest transaction processing sites on the internet. Specializing in J2EE management, troubleshooting, setup and design we looked to solve complex business problems for clients such as American Airlines, Sony, Best Buy and others. We grew a highly skilled consulting workforce who with the acquisition by Verizon have helped Verizon complete the vision of providing end to end IT Services, from Data Lines, to Data Centers, to Hardware and leasing, to now full IT management and outsourcing.

As an early member of Fort Point Partners, acted as the Project Manager and Lead Technical integrator for the first New York based project. Worked to build the New York, San Francisco and Munich offices into world class delivery centers. Additionally, acted as lead architect on Bluelight.com(K-Mart) a $20MM integration of ATG, ePiphany, Oracle Financials and Submit Order in a short 9 month sprint.

Lead the IT organization as the company built the first 100% pure Java messaging application. Built testing lab, install procedures on Netware and was responsible for ensuring the lab containing various flavors of UNIX from HPUX, AIX, Solaris and Linux were maintained and working for development and testing. Operated and maintained local phone system, network and email systems and was responsible for a total IT budget spend of >$5MM/yr.
