As a member of the Vermont Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA program, my position revolves around trying to bring services to under served communities. During my time serving as the go-to person for Parks and Recreation services for the city, I have started both a youth soccer and basketball programs. We have had great success running these programs, expanding attendance to previously unseen numbers. I have also done numerous work for the local natural areas, community gardens, adult recreational activities, various service projects, among other activities. During my time as a Vermont Youth Development Core AmeriCorps member, I helped operate a teen center and programming for a very diverse community. Winooski is a Refuge Resettlement Program site, where we get to experience a wide array cultures and experiences. Working as a direct service member taught me how to approach various situations where differing backgrounds can play such a vital role in both common and tense situations. My year of services was an amazing learning opportunity. It led me to a point where I truly found my place in a community that embraced me and helped me learn a lot about both the community and myself.
