When I was younger, I knew I viewed the world differently. I always struggled to excel at what my peers were doing around me. Sports, video games, you name it, I was probably bad if not mediocre at it. This was until I got introduced to the world of skateboarding and photography. Then and there, I began noticing the world around me not as typical day-to-day objects and infrastructure but as a playground that opened up to new and endless possibilities. A stair set, a street bench, the sidewalk, and even the handy-down clothes from my brother all began to serve new purposes. This taught me the value of the functionality and longevity of the resources we use daily and how sustainable solutions could not only benefit us but others in the present as well as in the future. My name is Ben McMillan and I am a 21-year-old undergraduate currently studying Business Sustainability at the W.P Carey School of Business. I’m fascinated by the concept of sustainability as it intrigues me repeatedly with its complexity and multifaceted nature. The coordination and implementation of sustainable concepts are becoming more important in our ever-changing world and my goal is to take part in helping companies make the world a better place for future generations to come. Through my previous work experience working in multiple specialized service jobs, I saw firsthand the importance of supply chain transparency, the demand for more future-forward strategies, and the significant impact many of our favorite companies have on the world around us. It is for this reason that I am working to assist companies by implementing more sustainable programs that will help reduce their carbon footprints as well as provide greater moral incentives to both the company and its customers.
