Designed individualized lesson plans dependant on student’s needs on subjects ranging from grammar to thesis and argument construction. Acted as a liaison between professor and student, developing individual goals for students.

Young Rhinebeck’s Life, Learning, and Language program provides a local support network for immigrant children and their families. Rhinebeck, New York, is home to a large population of ESL (English as a Second Language) speakers, whose academic and social needs are not always met by the school district alone. Young Rhinebeck strives to meet this need. Tutors from Bard work individually with elementary-school students to act as homework support, mentors, and models of higher academic goals. The program provides local family advocates and translation services to help maintain steady contact between the families and the school district. As advocates, mentors, and tutors, we are in constant contact with the Hispanic community in the Hudson Valley, and seek to raise social awareness of immigration and education issues.

At the Junior Summer Institute, Benjamin participated in intensive classes on quantitative and economic analysis of public policy, crafted policy memos on issues such as U.S. intervention in Mali, gasoline taxes, and minimizing the effect of unemployment on crime. He also honing public speaking skills while networking with high profile recruiters and government officers.

At Action Support Centre Benjamin researched and gathered resources for reports on large-scale tax evasion in southern Africa, wrote press releases on a number of human rights issues occurring in real time, including land redistribution, indefinite detentions in Zimbabwe, and development in South Africa.He was also hired as staff for two weeks after the completion of his internship to finish organizing the first African Solidarity Festival, hosted by Action Support Centre, which included workshops focused around topics such as organizing youth, the role of art in politics, and positive conflict transformation. The festival featured guests such as Elinor Sisulu, Bishop Paul Verryn, and Ela Gandhi.

At the Institute of Writing and Thinking, Benjamin synthesized and organized information such as teaching strategies submitted by workshop participants, coordinated check-in procedures for workshops for over 250 attendees, and created brochures and advertising material for The Institute.

While working as a canvasser and field manager at the Georgia Public Interest Research Group Benjamin coordinated canvassing routes with other field managers in the organization, managed the intake of cash and made reports on other canvassers, and trained new canvassers in material and presentation style.
