Dr. Benjamin Y.Q. Tan is Consultant Neurologist with the National University Hospital. He serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) and holds a joint appointment with the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), A*STAR.Dr. Tan graduated from the NUS in 2013 on the Dean’s List. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in medical school, he was awarded the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement (LHL-OAA). He completed his postgraduate residency training at the National University Hospital and attained a Master of Clinical Investigation degree from NUS, supported by the Ministry of Health Healthcare Research Scholarship. He obtained specialist accreditation in Neurology in 2021 and has since been practicing as a Vascular Stroke Neurologist, specializing in the care of young adults with ischemic stroke.Dr. Tan is a Principal Investigator of the StroCar research lab (http://www.strocarcollab.com/). His research focus includes identifying genetic predispositions to stroke and elucidating heart-brain interactions. Dr. Tan has a deep interest in leveraging large datasets and genomic data to transform patient care. By integrating big data analytics with genomic information, he seeks to identify patterns and predictors of stroke, ultimately enhancing precision medicine approaches.Dr. Tan has been awarded several research grants, including the NMRC Research Training Fellowship (Overseas), the ExxonMobil-NUS Research Fellowship for Clinicians, the NUHS Seed Fund, and the NUHS Clinician Scientist Program Award. He also serves as Neurology Specialty Editor for the Singapore Medical Journal. Active in clinical research, Dr. Tan has published over 220 papers (H-index 33) in peer-reviewed journals such as the Lancet Public Health, Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA Neurology, Stroke, Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, Annals of Neurology, European Stroke Journal, and Journal of Stroke.
