Muller are experts in obtaining planning permission on agricultural land and greenfield sites, including pasture and farmland and in realising the potential of derelict or under-performing sites and creating value for owners and investors.My role was to focus on securing land promotion opportunities in the housing sector. Managing a team of land executives at Muller my remit is to deliver sites that will achieve planning permission and generate value for landowners and Muller alike.While at the business I:- Self sourced and closed deal with landowner for a 12 acre site in the East Midlands, capable of delivering c.120-140 dwellings. Balfour Beatty Homes is the housing development arm of Balfour Beatty Plc. I joined the land acquisition and development team on assignment in January 2018 providing expertise to support this growing part of the business.The role required the creation of a brand new network of contacts to source development sites from, in a geography new to me from a work perspective in the Midlands. This network enabled me to generate a forward pipeline of attractive opportunities for the business to pursue.Whilst able to transfer skills from our investments business, I quickly learned and deployed new skills such as house building cost and revenue fundamentals and planning analysis.While with the team I successfully sourced an exclusive position for a housing development opportunity in Staffordshire.

Project managed teams developing proposals for multi-million pound partnering, investment, construction and facilities management opportunities, focusing on the Higher Education sector. My role included responsibilities for site identification and acquisition for Balfour Beatty to acquire and develop land, internal reporting and approval processes, leading and collaborating with cross Balfour Beatty group businesses and working in teams to improve business practices.Following the completion of my assignment to the USA, I returned to the U.K. division of Balfour Beatty Investments, within the student accommodation and build to rent development teams. I focused on leading the development of bids for complex opportunities in the Public-Private Partnership student accommodation sector, leading client engagement and project managing our team to ensure delivery of finance, legal, design, construction, and operational work stream requirements.I also took on a role as a work stream lead for an internal company initiative focused on projecting and instilling company culture throughout the business. This involved project managing a team of disparately located colleagues to produce and implement initiatives to drive the company culture throughout the workforce.My role in the U.K. involved mentoring and managing two more junior colleagues within the business to help their development, which I have found particularly rewarding.

Promoted to Senior Bid Manager February 2015. Returning to UK December 2015 and re-commencing role within Balfour Beatty Investments UK in January 2016 following 2 year secondment in USA.My primary responsibility was leadership of a consortium pursuing $1 billion UC Merced 2020 project (http://2020project.ucmerced.edu/). The consortium comprises of work streams including finance, legal, architecture, construction, operations and maintenance, and engineering. Following successful shortlisting from 6 to 3 bidders for the Request for Proposal stage, the consortium is working with the client to develop the Request for Proposals, with our responses due back in early 2016.We successfully implemented a change of leadership to the pursuit ahead of my return to the UK with an experienced colleague from Balfour Beatty Investments taking over my responsibilities to lead the team approximately one month prior to my departure. I introduced my colleague to the project over three months to ensure a successful handover, including making sure the client benefited from a smooth transition, and that our team built a strong relationship with my colleague before the change in leadership was implemented. I used the month prior to my departure to support my colleague to ensure any outstanding questions or issues were closed out.I also managed the financial close process for the second phase of graduate apartments at our project at the University of Iowa, with financial close achieved in May 2015. Responsible for risk management, schedule to financial close, ensuring internal approvals and working with finance, development and legal colleagues to ensure project parameters are achieved.Other responsibilities included representing Balfour Beatty at industry conferences, most recently the Academic Impressions Financing Campus Facilities through Public/Private Partnerships conference in San Diego. I have also developed a project risk tool for our campus projects.

Took opportunity to move abroad to the USA with Balfour Beatty Investments. Moved to work within Campus Solutions team, which focuses on university and college development opportunities within the USA.My prime role was to lead the pursuit of the UC Merced 2020 project, with overall leadership responsibility for our consortium team. One of six respondents to a complex Request for Qualifications, we were selected ahead of three other strong consortia who also submitted proposals. Leading the team, I had responsibility for setting direction, ensuring delivery and quality of proposals from all work streams, and for being the primary contact with the client. Managed strategy, development and coordination of presentation by myself and 14 consortium colleagues, to the client, which was a scored element of the Request for Proposals.Managed preferred bidder to financial close process for the second phase of graduate apartments at our project at the University of Iowa, with financial close anticipated in Q2 2015. Responsible for risk management, schedule to financial close, ensuring internal approvals and working with finance, development and legal colleagues to ensure project parameters are achieved.Supported colleagues on various other project pursuits, including Texas A&M College Station, Sn Francisco State University student accommodation pursuit, University of Iowa Museum of Art opportunity and University System of Georgia opportunity.Attended various industry conferences, including National Association of College and University Business Officers annual meeting, in Seattle. Promoted to Bid Manager for Balfour Beatty Investments.Responsible for managing bid collation, cost model management, working with the construction and operations teams and managing specific elements of client engagement.March 2010-September 2010: Supported Bid Director in pursuit of £1bn Hertfordshire BSF schools programme. A flagship project in the market, I took the role of leading the management of the design & construction work stream, working closely with our construction company, architectural partners, and consultants. Took an active role as part of the team developing our unique component build solution for the project, which we were successfully awarded in the summer of 2010.September 2010-December 2011: Worked on various project pursuits, including West Yorkshire Police stations - a £100m opportunity to design, build, finance and operate two police stations and a police training venue. Worked closely with the Bid Director, focusing on design & construction, operations and maintenance, and social and economic benefit work streams. Also worked on North London Waste PPP and London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority fire training PPP.January 2012-December 2012: Secondment at Balfour Beatty Construction, leading project pursuits in the power sector, including biomass conversion projects at Eggborough and Rugeley Power Stations. Worked closely with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partners based in the USA to develop proposals for our clients. Led frequent dialogue with potential clients on commercial and contractual terms.January 2013-August 2013: Managed Balfour Beatty pursuit of Priority Schools Building Programme, developing strategy within Balfour Beatty. Submitted proposal for first project within the programme.August 2013-January 2014: Additional Paternity Leave. Took time away from work to look after my young son, who had been born in early 2013. Took advantage of recent UK legislation to share parental leave with my wife.

Managed an internal Balfour Beatty team to deliver design, finance, legal and operations and maintenance proposals for the delivery of the schools. Fostered and developed strong working relationships with our client and with our internal team.October 2009-March 2010: Took position supporting Bid Director in pursuit of £1bn Hertfordshire BSF schools programme. Joined Balfour Beatty Investments as a Graduate Manager. Spent first year undertaking four, three month placements:1. Supported pursuit of New Tyne Tunnel PPP opportunity. £300m opportunity to design, build, finance and operate a second road traffic tunnel under the river Tyne. Managed submission of PQQ for framework of street lighting PPPs.2. Spent 3 months with team managing construction of Bassetlaw Schools, and operations of Rotherham Schools. Gained valuable experience of the challenges of completing construction to meet required specification, and of managing strategic relationships with end users in education projects.3. Transition management at Exeter Airport. Implemented Balfour Beatty company procedures at the then recently acquired Exeter Airport. Developed KPI system for each department.4. Project Finance placement. Supported Project Finance work stream for successful pursuit of Carlisle Northern Development Route project. Conducted cost model audits of various projects.I spent the second year of the Graduate programme working on the preferred bidder to financial close period for the £200m Islington BSF design, build, finance, operate project. In this role I supported the Bid Director to ensure the close out of documentation, in partnership with the client. My particular focus was to ensure that the design work stream delivered required outputs to achieve financial close. Upon financial close, I continued to work on the project, developing the second phase of schools.

Between leaving the Royal Bank of Scotland and joining Balfour Beatty Investments I spent 5 months away from work, first volunteering at an orphanage/shelter near Chennai, India, and secondly on an inter-rail trip around eastern Europe.VOLUNTEERINGI volunteered at the Mudhiyor Balar Kudumba Grama Pannai orphanage/shelter, Kasam, Katpadi, Vellore, Tamil Nadu 632007 India. I spent time getting to know the children, the destitute mothers (the orphanage/shelter provides this support) and the staff. I contributed by working with the children and mothers to improve their English, understanding their backgrounds and spending social time to build friendships. A valuable experience, with a particularly memorable excursion for the children and mothers to a boarding school on a holiday break a highlight.TRAVELFollowing the volunteering trip in India, I travelled eastern Europe by rail with my youngest brother and a friend of ours. Beginning in Croatia with a trip to the fabulous historic city of Dubrivnik, we took in Split, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague, Krakow, Katowice and Berlin before returning home. Budapest was a particular favourite of mine, which I have visited again since.This period also included a move to London upon returning from the trip to Europe, ahead of starting my Graduate Programme with Balfour Beatty Investments.
