My name is Benjamin Tiller and I'm a nursing student at Texas A&M University on the Second Degree Accelerated B.S.N. path. I will be graduating in May of 2021.Prior to entering the nursing field, I was a music teacher in Austin, TX. During the tumultuous pregnancy and birth of my son, I spent more time in a hospital than at any point in my life. The nursing staff that took care of my family at Baylor, Scott, & White in Round Rock and Temple were incredibly supportive of us and it was this experience that moved me to make a career change. My wife and I were suffering, not knowing whether or not our son would be okay. I decided that the most meaningful thing I could do with my life was to help reduce the suffering that many people feel when they or their loved ones are hospitalized.My short-term goals as a nurse are to graduate and begin working in the ICU, ER, or OR settings upon graduation. My long-term goals as a nurse are to continue my education, excel in providing care so that I can serve and impact more people, and be an advocate for men in the nursing profession. I would like to eventually become a nurse practitioner focused on critical care as I believe it would allow me to fulfill these goals meaningfully.
