For the project, Mr. Smith helped edit the National Water Companies Parish Plans. •World Bank Caribbean Energy Sector Engagement Framework, Caribbean 2013—The World Bank Latin America and Caribbean division hired Castalia to provide insights into the energy sector of the Caribbean in order to craft a new investment strategy for the region. Castalia reported on all aspects of Caribbean energy, including the natural gas, petroleum, and electricity sectors. Mr. Smith contributed reports on Nevis, Dominica, Grenada, and St. Vincent, including in depth financial analysis of electric utilities.•ExxonMobil vs. Republic of Argentina (Case No. ARB/04/16) 2012-2013—Castalia was hired to serve as an independent expert witness before the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Mr. Smith contributed to the project by designing and building a sub-model component critical to the operation of the overall model.

Mr. Smith was tasked with preparing briefings for these senior officials about the latest state of climate change diplomacy and science in order to better facilitate dialogue.

To address this the advisory group created a multi-client engagement to model the effects of various proposed climate legislation on the availability of US carbon offsets at a range of carbon prices. Mr. Smith led several aspects of the modeling effort, bringing in Data from an array of public and private sources in order to create a model with the most accurate results. The team’s efforts resulted in the most successful North American Advisory project to that point.• Conducting Research for Large Energy-Focused Private Equity Fund 2008—A leading energy investment private equity fund hired Point Carbon’s Advisory Group to identify and research a number of firms as potential investment targets. Mr. Smith led research on a number of these firms in the solar, biofuel, small hydro, energy efficiency and carbon capture spaces.
