- Possession Protection Officer- Isolation Protection Officer - Handsignaller level crossings As a protection officer I proactively involve myself in the strategic direction of the Safeworking & Incident response team. as a trained Health and Safety Representative I was asked to be involved in the development of a risk assessment for a new multiple workgroup register in line with the requirements of MD-14-166. I was involved from the beginning, and throughout the trial helping to correlate feedback and modifying the new form to suit the needs of the business and the field workers. I am pro-active in seeking out opportunities to shadow and learn the Network Shift Asset Manager role. An on-going learning opportunity the NSAM is responsible for the management of SEQ assets network during their daily operation by monitoring all SEQ assets for faults, irregularities ensuring timely and accurate communication of information regarding breakdowns performing the role of lead coordinator for the SEQ Maintenance and Operations teams for major incidents, particularly during non-standard working hours (e.g., derailments/de-wirements).

In April 2023 I was seconded to the position of Rail Safety Systems Adviser for a 2 month period. This role is responsible for developing, reviewing, and analysing documentation regarding rail safety systems such as SEMS documents, business instructions and advisory documents, providing timely and accurate information to customers, team members and the Rail Safety Systems Manager/Safeworking Discipline Head. In this role I work closely with the Principal Adviser Safeworking, undertaking safety critical communication and safeworking assurance activities and providing safeworking advice to internal and external stakeholders to pro-actively mitigate risk in Queensland Rail's safeworking procedures.

In June 2022 I was chosen to be seconded to the role of Protection Officer Supervisor for a 5-month period. I took over as the lead on a project to get the Protection Officers trained in the use of Works Manager (SAP) and Track Access System (TAS) I did this by maintaining a list of “champions” in our business area to maintain a network of support staff to assist in troubleshooting and training. I coached and mentored staff in utilising TAS in field when requested and supported the training team in delivering the TAS package by utilising the Universal Traffic Control simulation software and providing mock track authorities to enable hands on experience in the TAS software before using in field.

I relieved as the Officer in Charge at various locations in the Bowen Hills and Nambour Group Including Bowen Hills, Eagle Junction, Doomben, Gympie North and Landsborough.

I was seconded to the position of Assistant Station Master at Nundah Station for 6-Month period in 2018. During that time, I developed a strong ongoing commitment to safety. I think my attitude towards safety shone through the most when I was involved in a life-threatening medical emergency whilst on duty. I kept my calm and dealt with the situation, prioritising my own and the public’s safety first and achieved a positive outcome for the customer involved.

I worked in small teams of 2, and occasionally solo performing security duties through professional interactions with the public sometimes with the use of a trained security dog responding to a variety of calls, providing police and other emergency services personnel assistance in emergency situations. I was responsible for patrolling various Queensland Rail stations, yards and buildings to ensure the protection of the public, employees and property and to deter crime and aggressive behaviour.
