Profile bio

About Ben Harrington

I am a recent graduate of the University of Exeter, Cornwall Campus, having studied BSc Zoology as my undergraduate degree and MSc Conservation and Biodiversity postgraduate. During my University Career, I undertook two major research projects, studying the phototactic responses of snakelocks anemones and tracking the migratory phenology of brent geese between Ireland and Iceland. I also completed a number of smaller projects, including assessing the disturbance tourism causes to plant life in North Cyprus, investigating the effects of overharvesting on the population of queen conch in the Bahamas, and studying the impacts of tourist disturbance on herbivores in Kenya.Since leaving university, I have spent two months volunteering in the Sabangau Rainforest National Park in Borneo, where I was able to contribute to long-term conservation projects aimed at everything from studying the behaviour of orangutans and other primates, to discovering the most environmentally friendly trapping method for catching fish, to damming canals in the rainforest to help prevent forest fires and stop nutrients being leached from the peat. After returning from Borneo, I worked for two months with Eliesha Training Wales. It was my responsibility to prepare rooms for the training courses in the morning and to welcome delegates and trainers to the site. Once this was done, I would move to the office where I would organize and administrate a number of courses.

Listed skills include Wildlife, Zoology, Field Work, Ecology, and 46 others.
