• Published research to study self-assembled nano-surface structures on semiconducting surfaces using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), contributing to the field of surface science• To test our hypothesis that the surface structures were formed by coadsorption, I created a novel methodology for depositing surface molecules by evaporating a solution on the microscope tip before measuring the surface in a solution, resulting in supporting evidence for our hypothesis• Discovered that sweeping with a negative voltage on the microscope tip aided in the adsorption of surface structures, making it significantly easier to research and analyze these structures in experiments• Invented a novel methodology for examining the sub-surface structure underneath surface molecules by slightly blunting the microscope tip (reducing fragility) and then ”scraping” surface molecules off, allowing us to determine how the top layer was structured on the underlying layer via direct observation• Collected every high-quality STM image in one of our publications• Trained and supervised both PhD and undergraduate students to use STM in ambient and UHVC environments• Presented posters at the 2014 NDSU Undergraduate Physics Research Symposium and at ND EPSCoR 2012
