Ben leads a team of Learning & Performance Consultants (LPCs) who partner with business leaders across RBC to address strategic objectives and enable peak performance. Ben is tasked with transforming our L&P delivery model to curate learning solutions that build and enhance the skills and capabilities of RBC employees globally. In doing so, he will enable the LPC team to better understand the crux of performance gaps and present best-fit solutions that deliver a measurable business impact and optimize investments in learning. In addition, Ben provides leadership of the enterprise Compliance training portfolio, along with integration planning and oversight resulting from mergers and/or acquisitions and a strategy/initiatives team that helps elevate and strengthen the RBC Learning ecosystem.

Ben provides leadership on enterprise strategic direction related to Advancing Diversity, Strengthening Inclusion and Enabling Economic Inclusion. He works closely with key partners across HR, Enterprise ESG, External Reporting, Communications, Law, Group Risk Management, Investor Relations and Corporate Citizenship to track our progress on D&I priorities and to build action plans to drive towards achieving our shared goals. Ben and his team drive a beyond compliance approach to regulatory requirements and strategies to ensure we continue to advocate for greater equity while mitigating and managing risk. They build tools, systems and processes to drive greater employment equity, inclusive experiences, and insights to inform strategic decision-making related to our D&I efforts.

Ben helps RBC understand and substantiate the success measures behind our diversity and inclusion efforts, strengthening the strategic relevance and impact of our initiatives and investments and enabling better decision making. With his wealth of experience leading the development of RBC’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) disclosure, Ben’s understanding of how shareholders and policymakers are evolving their expectations of corporations to deliver greater transparency on diversity efforts and representation will help shape RBC’s narrative in this space. He also supports Human Resources as an ambassador for ESG disclosure to investors, helping us engage the right people from across HR to shape the RBC human capital narrative to this important stakeholder group.

As part of Canada’s largest bank, and one of the largest banks in the world (based on market capitalization), I contribute insights that lead to better performance management and stronger understanding of societal impacts. Overseeing RBC’s Center of Expertise (CoE) tasked with the development/refinement of our impact measurement, evaluation and reporting tools, we aspire to be well known as the Canadian leader in impact measurement. Through the robust and reliable measurement of our impacts, we can make more informed decisions to optimize the value created across multiple forms of capital (including financial capital, social/relational capital, human capital, intellectual capital and natural capital). Additional responsibilities include: • Ongoing analysis and interpretation of success metrics to ensure program efficacy for decision-making and sector capacity building; setting Citizenship’s KPIs and influencing the development of RBC corporate KPIs. • Continuous improvement of the effectiveness of all major Citizenship programs (e.g. strategic philanthropy, social finance, environmental risk management, employee engagement, etc.)• Oversight of a team that is the main point of accountability for Citizenship data and reporting (liaison with Brand & Communications, Businesses and Functions, including external reporting, strategy/alignment, IA, HR, etc.) • Providing subject matter expertise to the Corporate Citizenship team in the definition of target outcomes, tracking progress against those outcomes• Accountability for internal and external Citizenship reporting (including CR report and research requests from the socially responsible investment community)• Identification of likeminded-partners and influencing global reporting structures

As part of EY's efforts to:• Further build our global brand in nonfinancial information (NfI) reporting and assurance, • Increase internal and external awareness on CCaSS NfI reporting and assurance services and expertise, • Drive sales of large scale NfI reporting transformation and assurance projects, and• Strengthen CCaSS relationships and communication across the globe,Ben oversees and enables EY's global network of Reporting/Assurance leaders in 24 of our strategic regions. Ben manages select relationships with external stakeholders in the reporting arena, including the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) contributing to many of the IIRC's current and historical initiatives on behalf of EY. In summary, Ben manages our global efforts for innovation within our core reporting/assurance services as well as our go-to-market approaches, thought leadership development, global project quality and reporting advisory projects for strategic global accounts. Ben leads performance management and impact measurement projects for strategic global accounts that are focused on leveraging the framework as a catalyst for better business management.

Ben drove business development and project delivery for EY Americas reporting and assurance services, primarily focused on establishing and furthering EY's brand in the Western United States & Canada. Ben brought his wealth of expertise in performance measurement, management and reporting to the EY Americas team leading high profile projects with many of our Fortune 100 clients. In addition to fundamental teaming, coaching and people development aspects, Ben also led the development and adaptation of our global sustainability assurance methodology for the US market as well as contributing to the development of EY's Conflict Mineral Independent Private Sector Audit (IPSA) methodology. Ben represented EY Americas on global work streams to develop EY's <​Integrated Reporting> transformation methodology and our integrated audit methodology to optimize efficiencies in the reporting and assurance over financial and nonfinancial information. He also represented EY on multiple external working groups to develop the IIRC's Integrated Reporting framework and presented on the importance of impacts measurement quarterly through various mediums including: GreenBiz Forum, Green Sports Alliance Summit, EY's Let's Talk Sustainability, American Accounting Association Symposium, EY Academic Research Consortium, PDAC, America's Mining/Metals Forum, and many others.

Ben managed PwC’s Sustainable Business Services practice in Vancouver BC with a focus on sustainability reporting and assurance. He managed data reviews, focusing on substantive testing and mitigating risk, across a variety of sectors. Key to this work has been the ability to engage with senior management and board level stakeholders to ensure organisational buy-in to the process. Throughout his employment with PwC he became an experienced analyst and user of multiple management software solutions and collaboration tools, developing strong capabilities to identify value drivers for effective policy/strategy & better performance management.

Ben served as a financial statement auditor and employee benefit plan auditor for approximately 3 years with PwC Portland in an effort to learn of applicable risk assessment methodologies, effective data management processes and operational controls. In the later years within this time, Ben began to focus on reviewing, assessing and quantifying liabilities associated with natural capital degradation, asset retirement obligations and other potential and threatened environmental litigation. His knowledge of financial information management provides companies a bridge from financial implications/risks to the importance of non-financial information management for better business performance.

Ben served as a tax advisor and bookkeeper for individuals, sole-proprietorships, partnerships and S-corporations in conjunction with US federal and State of Oregon tax laws. His experience in tax law and bookkeeping has contributed to an understanding of legal analysis helpful in growing organizations as well as budgeting, planning and cost accounting requisite of operational functions within organizations.
