The B. Braun Innovations R&D Department is responsible for Idea harvesting, evaluation, concept development and risk reduction.I contribute to the department by performing Idea Reviews, Feasibility Reviews, Proof of Principle events and Technical Assignments.Idea Reviews require communication with contributors from all possible areas of the business. Once the Idea is understood, the alignment to company goals and our strategic vision is evaluated. If the threshold for acceptability is met, the Idea is passed on for a Feasibility Review.Feasibility Review requires a significantly deeper understanding of the potential benefits of implementing the new Idea. More detailed predictions are gathered from Marketing as well as input from representatives from Manufacturing, Financial, Quality and Regulatory Affairs. A report is generated then reviewed by a peer within the department.Proof of Principle events are intensive cross functional events that result in well vetted concepts ready for implementation.Technical Assignments are required when a project is in its implementation phase and requires a solution where my expertise and expereince can be applied.'Innovations' provides opportunities for me to communicate cross-functionally, lead teams, evaluate opportunities, requirements, and risks, utilize my creative problem solving talents and utilize concepts design systems such as SolidWorks, modeling clay, etc.

The OEM R&D Product Engineering group provides the division’s customers with the development resources required to make their concepts reality. http://www.bbraunusa.com/ I am responsible for new development and sustaining aspects of projects and products.New Development:• Review of the intended use of the new device or set,• Comparative analysis of design requirements and existing products and capabilities,• Project review with department managers (Manufacturing, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs & R&D Engineering),• Design of new products and/or capabilities as required,• Documentation of the project in the Design Controls system (Design Input, Design Output, etc.),• Documentation of project details (including, but not limited to, labeling, drawings, test data, aging qualification information, engineering change order, etc.).Sustaining:• Review of change request (from manufacturing department or external customer)• For simple changes – submit engineering change order• For complex changes – execute new development project flowThe following tools are used to accomplish these tasks: • AutoCAD is used to modify existing drawings for use in evaluation lots & small lot production. • Pro Engineer or SolidWorks are to design and evaluate the merits of new products. • SAP allows for the display of bills of materials, inventory levels & costs of materials.I communicate directly with customers & vendors via telephone conversations, conference calls, on-site visits & customer-site visits. Customer & vendor representatives range from engineering staff to heads of companies. Details are given in a manner consistent with the customer or vendor representatives’ position & technical orientation.
