Award winning music producer and filmmaker, Ben Makinen has over 40 years professional experience in film, television, theatre and music production and performance. He produced and directed his first feature length documentary titled JazzTown in 2021 and followed it up with Who Killed Jazz in 2022 and is currently in post production with We Are Here: Women In Jazz. Makinen enjoys a collaborative reputation with an international community of multi-media clientele.Makinen produces documentary film, music video, narrative and creative short film with his production and distribution company Bmakin Film. In 2004 Makinen served as theexecutive producer for a DVD of dance by the Zimbabwean troupe Boterekwa under the direction of Zimbabwe music pioneer Sekuru Gweshe who is a descendant of Nohoreka, the first of the Budya people and the founder of the Shumba totem originating in Tanganyika (Tanzania).
