As a teacher, I taught complex scientific concepts to elementary aged students with understandable, experiential lessons. I also independently managed and solved individual and interpersonal student challenges, such as playground injuries, student disagreements, and disruptive behavior.

In this position, I worked across language barriers to administer electroencephalogram exams on individuals with traumatic brain injuries. I also collaborated closely with physicians in the exam room to record medical histories, conduct traumatic brain injury screenings, and ensure patient electronic medical records are up to date and accurate.

As a sales associate, I used my expertise in the outdoor industry and friendly attitude to create a knowledgeable and welcoming store environment. Additionally, I worked at the register, handling complex customer requests during busy and high stress periods on the weekends.

As a sea kayaking guide for Outdoor Odysseys, I led groups of up to 12 guests on safe and enjoyable multi-day expeditions in the San Juan Islands. In this role, I managed and resolved challenging situations associated with sea kayaking, such as guest anxiety, sudden weather changes, and cold water rescues.

As a laboratory assistant in a genetics lab, I designed and implemented a laboratory course involving the knockout of various genes in C. elegans alongside the professor. I also mentored students in advanced laboratory skills in genetics such as PCR, gel electrophoresis and DNA sequencing.

For this internship, I had the privilege of traveling around rural regions of Ghana to provide affordable eye care by assisting Ghanaian nurses and ophthalmologists in outreach clinics. I dispensed free and low cost medications, conducted visual acuity tests to assess vision, and communicated effectively across language and cultural barriers.

As a resident assistant, I promoted the creation of inclusive, safe and welcoming communities in the dorms. In this position, I managed student related crises requiring both immediate and prolonged attention, planned floor wide social events and conducted periodic rounds to ensure the safety of residents across multiple halls.

As a management intern for Unite for Sight, I created and updated informational web content about strategies to address the most significant barriers to care in global health. I also published an article based on interviews with the winners of the Global Health and Innovation Conference Prize.

In this position, I led kayaking trips over shipwrecks and into sea caves in dynamic weather and water conditions on Lake Superior. On the water, I educated guests on the geology, wildlife and history of the Apostle Islands.
