About Ben Merens

Contact me at: Ben@benmerens.com or (414) 403-0511. I use my storytelling skills to teach individuals, non-profits, and corporate teams the art/science of storytelling. I've spent the past five years involved in Healthcare Communications. Since November 2020, I've been a case manager with the Milwaukee Health Department. I honed my Storytelling skills at Wisconsin Public Radio with the daily talk shows, "Everybody's Business" and "At Issue with Ben Merens." I focused guests and callers on relational (vs. transactional) business experiences "from Main Street to Wall Street".I also have added story script creation to my work -- especially for non profits that are looking to share their stories or the stories of their clients. I use in-depth interviews to gather the stories and then write 5-minute scripts so that emotive and memorable stories can be shared with audiences of all kinds in an efficient and powerful way.I am the author of "People Are Dying To Be Heard." Both this book and "Uni-Tasking: 25 Tips For Better Listening" are available as audio books. My public speaking presentations to business, civic and educational groups focus on the information in these books. All three topics--Corporate Storytelling, Listening and Uni-tasking--build on each other to aid in productive communications for healthcare, education, sales and management professionals,as well as civic group, non-profit, and general audiences.The most professionally unique aspect of my listening and storytelling work involves "Music While You Wait." I take a person's story and immediately turn it into song on the guitar (with vocals). (See below).After 21 years at WPR, I left the network in May 2013. At the time of my departure, "At Issue" ranked as the network's highest rated weekday program.I have taught communications at Marquette University (Spring 2014) and at Hofstra U. (NY), Columbia College (Chicago), Concordia University (Mequon, WI). I have guest-lectured at Marquette U., UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, Alverno College, and Loyola University.Specialties: KEYWORDS: Corporate Storyteller; Storytelling; Internal Content; Knowledge Management; Listening; Radio Talk Show Host; Lecturer; Motivational Speaker; Consultant: Merrens (sp); Mehrens (sp); Merrins (sp);

What Can My Firm Expect In A Communications Audit?A communications audit works in much the same manner as a financial audit. A firm’s traditional and new media vehicles are examine thoroughly to determine where discrepancies, redundancies, or unclear results have occurred, and how remedies might be made in the most cost-effective fashion. A communications audit focuses on the content messages being put forth on a variety of communications platforms and who is delivering those messages for the firm, both as internal and external parties.
