I'm most proud of the fact that I stepped up and became the de facto "Director of Product" for our legacy platform. As our engineering efforts became consumed with a re-platforming initiative, I remained as the solitary voice, advocating for—and often fighting for—the rights of our existing customers. This allowed me find my true voice and evolve into a mature Product-focused, Customer-lead engineer.I often used the phrase, "I'm willing to advocate for my customers even when the business won't." As the CTO and technical co-founder of InVision, I evolved a 4-page, jQuery-based proof-of-concept into a robust and modular AngularJS application that would—at its height—be valued at $1.2B. This required laying-down solid architectural patterns on both the front-end and the back-end that would help the rest of our team become optimally effective. I (informally) mentored my fellow engineers on the topics of ColdFusion, JavaScript, and SQL. And, used tools such as FusionReactor, Chrome's Performance Monitoring, and the MySQL Performance Log to locate and address memory leaks and performance bottlenecks.

I was the technical co-founder of Epicenter Consulting. There, I lead a small engineering team and personally built several ColdFusion products for our clients. My greatest achievement was creating an internal visual prototyping application that we eventually spun-off into its own venture-backed company: InVision App, Inc. Adjacent to work, my co-founder and I also managed the New York ColdFusion User Group (CFUG).

I lead our research and development efforts, building internal products that laid the foundation for our client-facing applications. This significantly reduced the overall effort that our team had to exert when building individual client solutions. I also authored a weekly internal technology newsletter and lead our internal peer-learning program. My intent was to become a force-multiplier for our team by helping everyone both broaden and deepen their web development skills.

As a senior ColdFusion developer and the head of our research and development team, I kept the company ahead of the technology curve, pulling-in advances in ColdFusion, Flash, and JavaScript. I sat in on interviews as the technology consultant. I also organized peer teaching sessions in an effort to help all of our employees stay current with our technologies; and, I performed code reviews and made myself available at any time to help others—unblocking people on my team was a top priority. I re-built several of our ColdFusion-based solutions from the ground up to be cleaner, faster, standards compliant, and able to leverage all the new advances in the ColdFusion MX family of products. In this role, I fell in love with Regular Expressions and used them extensively to clean, sanitize, and process large datasets.

I built and maintained the front-end to our ColdFusion powered extranet solution. I was also the lead Quality Assurance (QA) engineer, responsible for testing all aspects of the application. Most of the time, I was also tasked with fixing the errors that I found: ColdFusion, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or otherwise. I spearheaded our research and development efforts, experimenting with new advances in Flash Components and .NET applications. Outside of our primary extranet project, I developed smaller ColdFusion sites from start to finish.
