Commission Accounting Manager
Responsible for overseeing the Commissions department, which processes commissions, including making payments and issuing 1099s to independent contractors of the firm. Provide technical expertise regarding commission accounting issues and regulatory information and research. Performs the most complex activities associated with data integrity, reporting and processing of commission payouts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Managing a team that includes offshore team members. -Providing technical assistance on major transactions and product development-Communicating and implementing practices and procedures for proper financial control-Recommending changes to the company's commission accounting policies and standards based on changes in securities regulations or business needs-Articulating impact of policy changes to senior management within the business group/organization-Managing simultaneous projects that impact the department due to mergers, acquisitions, recruiting efforts, system changes and other changes driven by business decisions and/or changes in the final services industry (these projects require coordination among other departments and the ability to communicate, share ideas and work effectively with other areas of the company, as well as data analysis, utilization of multiple resources and systems, and implementation of processes and procedures for the successful execution of the task at hand)-Applying extensive, specialized knowledge and acting as the internal consultant or final authority in commission accounting-Being accountable for inquiries, escalation and exception processing-Researching and coordinating information among various departments and people, systems and clearing firms or other third-party providers

Management:• Assist in managing an offshore accounting staff of 6 located in Hyderabad, India.• Oversee functions such as commission accounting and reporting, cash reconciliations, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable and month end closing tasks.• Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures.• Monitor effectiveness of internal controls ensuring compliance with GAAP.• Provide guidance to Payroll, Human Resources and Commission Accounting departmentsFinancial Accounting:• Support monthly closing processes including general ledger reconciliations.• Prepare, review and approve all general journal entries, accruals, and allocations.• Maintain fixed asset schedules and capital appropriation.• Intercompany charge review and reconciliation.• Cash management for all company bank accounts to include wires and ACH funding.• Review contracts and appropriate revenue recognition.• Establish and maintain vendor relationships for banking and bank merchant accounts.• Provide internal and external auditors with requested items including: business process flow, financial process documentation, balance sheet reconciliations and supplemental financial schedules for quarterly reviews and year-end audits.Analysis:• Perform fluctuation analysis of income statement and balance sheet accounts for month, quarter and annual variances.• Present financial information and appropriately answer accounting questions to management, as requested.Reports:• Prepares financial statements and consolidated financial statements for upper management and executive team.• Provides ad hoc reporting as requested.Taxes:• File all quarterly and month Sales & Use Tax and Unclaimed Property in multiple states.• File all Personal Property & Real Property taxes for multiple counties and states.• Complete and file Securities Investor Protection Corp (SIPC) annual report.General Administration:• Take part in ad hoc projects as needed.
