Serve as a hydropower mechanical-maintenance engineering specialist in the field of powerhouse and pumping station mechanical systems. I help prepare, direct and review studies and analysis of design alternatives and determines mechanical design features to be proposed in various planning level studies and detailed design memorandums. I provide field engineering and quality control support with agency maintenance staff and contractors while fabrication and construction is in progress. Create or inform operations procedures and maintenance practices when a project is complete. Provide engineering and commissioning support. Implement and sustain asset management and compliance programs such as our oil analysis program and hydropower asset management program.

As a Hydropower Intern I have the opportunity to learn about the Hydropower, Inland Navigation, Fish Passage, and Flood Risk Management. I work alongside senior mechanical and electrical engineers on design projects small to large. Coordinate preventative maintenance practices and strategies with our powerhouse maintenance workers. When I am not working at the Operating Project Sites (the Dam), I rotate through different sections/branches at the NWD District Offices. These rotations allow me to network with a variety of Engineers, Economists, Project Managers, and Fish Biologists. Rotations I have completed include: Dam Operations, Cost Engineering, Project Management, Mechanical Design Branch, Hydroelectric Design Center - Turbomachinery, Specification, and Operations & Maintenance Tech. Support Branch. At each rotation I am expected to participate in regular scheduled meetings, site visits, and develop my engineering abilities through a variety of projects.
