My choice of pharmacy was due to my passion for medical careers. My interest grew as I started learning chemistry and microbiology. I want to study pharmacy and have the skills and knowledge to pursue that goal. Pharmacy is not simple like any other career, but I am determined to go through the obstacles to complete and earn the degree. Not only do I want to help those around me, but I also need to focus on a job that will bring financial stability to my family and future families.I have not gained much experience in the field of pharmacy yet. I joined the Eagle's Pre-Pharmacy Association at UNT and listened to speakers about pharmacy school. Additionally, I worked on gaining practical skills for future emergencies, like First Aid/CPR/AED, Basic Life Support, and First Aid for Severe Trauma. Even though I did not decide to become a nurse or doctor in medicine, I figured I could get certified in these skills because I can help anyone, even my family, immediately when an emergency strikes. I developed documentation skills by conducting laboratory experiments. I also decided to minor in Medical Anthropology to gain knowledge and assist anyone with different cultural and religious backgrounds, especially if they prefer traditional medicine. I also applied for a Pharmacy Technician Trainee license so that when I get hired, I could gain additional experience in pharmacy.I volunteered with Hearts for the Homeless organization at UNT by monitoring blood pressure and advising individuals in maintaining normal levels. We served at Our Daily Bread and the Salvation Army. I did get help from my officers since I did not have too much knowledge in explaining how to lower or raise blood pressure. However, the more I saw them do it, the more I realized it was a critical skill for communicating with and building the confidence of those we served. Overall, I am determined to become a pharmacist and have the necessary skills prepared when entering.
