AxizWorkgroup is a leading IT infrastructure distributor supplying a wide range of top IT hardware and software brands and solutions. All major international IT brands that go to market via distribution are represented by AxizWorkgroup. The company has branches in South Africa (Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town), Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia. As financial director, I lead a team of 30 people, including 5 managers, and am responsible for the full financial function (accounts receivable, credit, accounts payable, general ledger and accounting, management reporting, budgeting, treasury (jointly), audit, payroll, vendor reporting), and company secretarial (jointly). Previously JSE-listed Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) was a leading South African multi-billion rand high-technology group that operates in the Telecommunications, Multi-media and Information Technology environments, with strong focus on convergence. A sub-management structure exists at Altech head office called Converged Services, of which I was the CFO. The Converged Services division has responsibility for a group of 8 operating companies, spread across South Africa and four East African Countries. Converged Services provided services ranging from voice, data and video, delivered across wired, fibre optic, and wireless telecommunication networks. In Kenya, the company – Kenya Data Networks, owned and operated the largest data and internet backbone in East Africa. The converged services division responsibility was primarily related to driving strategy, ensuring financial performance and governance of the operating companies.In addition to the above, my involvement included leadership in funding, capital projects, and all aspects of financial operations.

Amongst various strategic projects, the achievements in Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment were most notable. Thsi included HP being the first Multinational to receive Equity Equivalent approval, and reaching a Codes of Good Practice Level 2 status in officially the first year (2007) of B-BBEE.
