Mechanical Smelter Reliability Engineer at Olympic Dam Mine, SA.Working within the Analysis and Improvement (A&I) team covering the Smelter functions and equipment. This includes all areas from concentrate feed preparation through to final casting. Experience working with range of dynamic and static equipment essential to the reliable operation and performance of the Smelter, including: pumps (centrifugal and PD), fans, dryers, filter presses, piping, conveyors, tanks, boilers, furnaces and heat exchangers. Role required ability to work closely with maintenance execution and production personnel in order to increase reliability of plant and minimize downtime. This included work as maintenance engineer to assess and provide technical supports for breakdowns, as well as leading and participating in RCA and defect elimination sessions to identify and action root causes. Responsibility for managing and improving the maintenance strategies and work instructions was also a key component of role, and required close review of history and planned work within SAP system. This also required development of the departmental budgets for the upcoming financial years, and forecasting both planned and unplanned maintenance/breakdown costs in a tight financial climate.

Working for BHP Billiton based at Olympic Dam, SA. Experience gained working across the whole site throughout 3 seperate departments/roles:- Maintenance/Reliability within Concentrator/Hydromet areas in Processing Plant. Experience working 'on the tools' with the operations and maintenance teams learning the layout and complexities of the plant. Worked through two major planned shutdowns with both engineers and maintenance teams conducting inspections and repair work. Familiarised with GSAP maintenance/planning software for both planned and unplanned work. - Small Projects & Modifications/Technical Support within Mine EngineeringWorking predominantly within the engineering technical support team, I was able to gain experience responding to and resolving issues with the fixed plant machinery, pumps, tanks and pipes for the underground mine, pump stations, surface infrastructure and backfill plants. This involved prioritising work based on risk and safety potentials, which were then inspected and analysed to find appropriate solutions in a timely manner. Scoping of jobs and tendering of work was also handled within our department. Within Small Projects & Modifications team I was in charge of a number of small projects, engaging with stakeholders and relevant personnel to come up with initial concepts and designs; selecting and refining the appropriate option with mutual agreement from all involved, before managing the deliverables and progress of the external EP(C) companies employed to carry the concepts through to the end of execution. - Project Controls/Portfolio Optimisation within Asset Projects department. Managing and developing project schedules at an Asset level for multiple projects at a time. Developing from scratch through interaction with project managers and stakeholders a realistic and manageable schedule (using both MS Project and Primavera P6), and then refining this continuously as the project went on and reporting on progress.
