Benny is the Chief Executive Officer of Tanoto Foundation, a philanthropic organisation that believes in harnessing the transformative power of education to realise people's full potential and to improve lives. Operating in Singapore, Indonesia, China and the Americas, the Foundation focuses on high-impact programmes in early childhood education and development, basic education, development of future leaders and medical research. As CEO, Benny oversees the strategy development and implementation of the Foundation's global philanthropic activities, as well as fosters collaborations to amplify the impact of the Foundation.Benny is concurrently the Executive Vice President (External Affairs) at RGE, a group of world class companies that specialise in resource-based manufacturing. As EVP(EA), he oversees the strategic communication and social capital efforts of the RGE Group. His other duties include coordinating the sustainability strategy and carbon management of the Group. Effectively bilingual, Benny is also intimately involved in RGE's business development in China. Benny previously served 20 years in the Singapore Administrative Service. This included seven years as Principal Private Secretary to the President, where he served as the strategic advisor and chief of staff to Dr Tony Tan (2016-2017) and Mdm Halimah Yacob (2017-2022). He was also Chairman of the President’s Challenge Steering Committee from 2016 to 2022, providing guidance on the fundraising, deployment and impact measurement of more than US$100m to charities in Singapore. As a public service officer, Benny had extensive experience in policy making, investment and reserves management, governance, leadership, strategy, data analytics, strategic communication and human resource management. Benny started his career as an educator and spent more than a decade in the sector, including several years as an education policy maker and subsequently as a school leader. Benny is an Honorary Member of the Chief of Staff Association. He holds a Masters degree from Imperial College, University of London.
