I was aware, even at that age, that my opportunity to study at 3rd level was not guaranteed. From 2004 to 2008, I completed a greenkeeping apprenticeship and worked on a multitude of agricultural developments with the intent of gaining the necessary experience to restore native habitats. In 2008, having completed my training with the Glasnevin Botanic Gardens, and as a result of the ongoing recession, I went in search of new challenges abroad.
