I was responsible for the overall implementation and development of FFI’s work in South Sudan. FFI’s support to the National Wildlife Service and local communities focuses on Southern National Park and two Game Reserves and adjacent community conservancies. My responsibilities included protected area management, infrastructure development, project monitoring and evaluation, reporting, fundraising, financial management, stakeholder engagement, donor and partner relationship management, HR management, and organisational and legal compliance.

Rwanda

African Parks Network translocated 18 black rhinos from South Africa to Akagera National Park in Rwanda. I was responsible for the welfare of the rhino on their release and training 12 park staff to become rhino monitors.

Namibia

Fulfilling the role of interim manager, I oversaw the onsite running, administration, management and monitoring of the lodge and 80 000ha reserve. I was responsible for 11 employees, managing guests and maintaining roads, fences, waterholes, and wildlife, including a small black rhino population.

Marion Island, Sub-Antarctic

As one of three field researchers of MIMMP’s long-standing research focused on elephant seals, fur seals, and killer whales, my responsibilities included: data collection, management, and analysis; physical and chemical immobilization; satellite device deployment and tracking; weighing and tagging of seals; tissue sampling; and scat processing and analysisWith no in-situ supervision, isolated for 13 months with a group of 20 researchers and technicians, and working in extremely harsh weather conditions, this research program demands physical and mental resoluteness.
