Civil Engineer, MSc in Applied Sciences, PhD in hydraulic engineering, Benoit Spinewine has over 10 years’ experience in academic research in the field of hydraulic engineering, sediment transport, geomorphology and geohazards in fluvial and marine settings. He is now applying his expertise on industry projects as diverse as Offshore Wind Farms or Tailing Dams. He was awarded in 2005 the biennial John F. Kennedy Award by the Int. Assoc. of Hydraulic Engrg & Research, has authored 19 journal publications and over 50 communications at specialty conferences and congresses. Besides his appointment with Fugro, the world leader in the collection and interpretation of Earth data, he holds a guest lectureship in Civil Engineering at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium, where he teaches marine and coastal hydraulics and offshore geotechnics. In his spare time he is active in promoting local community-funded renewable wind energy projects at the local cooperative Nosse Moulin. What he cherishes most is a multidisciplinary environment in which dedicated experts in complementary fields may join forces toward a broader common objective.
