I successfully moved from a system engineering role to a full stack software engineer and have been leading the way forward in terms of up to date technologies, processes, and methodologies. My day to day job might involve designing and implementing databases, backend systems, APIs, front end user interfaces/experiences and everything in between. I also have a keen interest in security, ensuring that not only server configurations are secure but also any software I produce follows best security practices and standards.

My role is a combination of a System Administrator and Support Engineer. The system administrator part of the role involves managing and maintaining the internal infrastructure (servers, network equipment, PBX, router and firewall) as well as specifying and procuring new hardware as needed. The support engineer part of the role involves directly engaging with customers providing first line product support as well as handling 2nd line escalations from other helpdesk technicians that require a deeper understanding of the internal mechanics of our software suite. I also work with new customers from the planning stage to the go-live point to ensure the implementation goes as smoothly as possible from a technical perspective.Some major infrastructure projects I led were a migration from many individual internal servers to 2 replicating Hyper-V hosts, and a migration from on-premise Exchange to Office 365.

- Led the migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010- Designed and implemented a web based IT asset management system with integrated helpdesk- Implemented WSUS to more effectively utilise bandwidth and provide essential visibility of the status of Windows Updates- Implemented service and trend monitoring using Nagios and Cacti- Provided emergency out of hours support for business critical systems
