As a Policy Intern at the Tokyo-based international human rights non-profit, Human Rights Now, I researched and wrote policy statements on media freedom in Japan, Alabama's abortion ban, and sexual harassment in the restaurant industry and its relationship to tipping, among other topics. My statement on Japan's media freedom was read aloud at the 41st Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

As part of the central and growing Content team at Fundera, I had one foot in content marketing and the other in content strategy.On the content marketing side, I created, edited, assigned, tracked, curated, scheduled, and published Fundera's content output, ranging from our blog and newsletters to our website copy and off-site publications. We're always working to find new outlets to educate small business owners about their loan options and best business practices. On the strategy end, I worked closely with my small team to figure out how to position Fundera in the Financial Technology industry as a brand small business owners can trust. We have a great product—and we want everyone to know.I also worked with product managers, designers, and engineers to plan, write, test, and iterate on more technical product copy, as well as content-specific, engineering-heavy monthly "homerun" projects intended to drive viral traffic. Understanding our customers goes a long way in shaping user experience.

At Columbia University Press, I learned the ins and outs of publishing generally and academic publishing specifically. I prepared manuscripts for release to production, a process which involves proofreading, copyediting, formatting, and file and metadata organizing. I also drafted a variety of letters, wrote author bios, dealt with publishing contracts, learned about book publishing and marketing strategies, and carried out a number of research projects.

In the beginning of my internship, I was one of five people working on eBay's new curatorial team. In the long term, I helped mold both eBay's brand and the strategic approaches our team used employed with a great deal of flexibility for creativity, researched emerging trends in social media and how to best adapt the company's image through content narratives, and assisted in adjusting ongoing projects to match a continuously evolving voice both for eBay and for our team.
