Manager of Mining Innovation and Analytics as part of the corporate environment of Rio Tinto. With the newly formed Innovation and Analytics groups this merges together the existing Innovation group, Excellent Centers and Analytics groups into a single group. The role has been initial to bring together this group at the same time as maintaining existing projects, customer expectations and set the strategic direction into the future in an agile manor. The role includes:• Stakeholder engagement at a senior level up to Group Executive• The deployment & Support of automation & Analytics solutions across the global Rio Tinto portfolio• Roadmap building and delivery, bringing strategy into existence and providing a sustainable pathway for value delivery from technology• Network partner engagement in order to rapidly bring marry together customer problems with industry solution.

Working within Rio Tinto's Technology & Innovation group I am responsible for the Innovation delivery activities of our flag ship products. Manger Automation Delivery of automation technology across the Rio Tinto product groups. Responsible for:• Deployment of autonomous equipment across multiple product group and geographical locations. Eg. Mine Automation Systems (MAS) Australia and North America• Multiple geo-located teams, East Coast Australia, West Cost Australia, Western Australia FIFO, North America• Commercial contracts, funding, licensing, installation and support model.• Support structure within Rio Tinto in order to support autonomous equipment being deployed into brown field 24/7 FIFO operations. • Real-time Analytics through data fusion of existing data sources to use information in smarter and more efficient ways. Winner of the 2015 ITnews Industrial CIO of the year award. Rio Tinto’s MAS/RTvis program in the space of 18 months has increased usage from 100 users to over 1000 registered uses and is now installed in over 85% of Rio Tinto’s open cut mines. This has geographical locations ranging from Western Australia’s Pilbara region(Iron Ore), Mongolia (Copper),East Cost of Australia (Coal), North America – California (Borax) and North America – Salt Lake City (Kennecott Copper). At the West Angelas mine MAS/RTVis has enabled a 2.7% increase in high grade recovery.

During this period of time Rio Tinto through it’s network partners was transitioning technology from an R&D environment to the commercial environment.
