About Benjamin T. Sharpe, Phd
Benjamin is a senior lecturer and a researcher in cognitive psychology at the Institute of Psychology, Business, and Human Sciences of the University of Chichester. Ben is currently a member of the Universities Academic Board and the Research and Innovation Committee, and staff CPD coordinator and technology officer within his institute. Leading the Human Attention Laboratory at Chichester, Ben is researching topics associated with human cognition (e.g., sustained attention), while leading/collaborating on various grant-funded projects covering virtual reality, mild cognitive impairment, mental health assessment and validation, neuromodulation, and skill acquisition in a range of populations (i.e., dementia, esports, lifeguarding, and military). His current research utilises high-density electrophysiological recording (i.e., EEG), optical imaging (i.e., fNIRS), and interventional (i.e., tDCS, TMS) techniques, in research exploring how sensory/motor signals influence human performance/behaviour. His PhD research, developed at the University of Chichester, in collaboration with Kings College London, the Royal Life Saving Society and Royal National Lifeboat Institute, focused on exploring psychological factors and neurocognitive processes involved in detection performance and led to substantial changes to current lifeguard training manuals and everyday practice.
