Ben has acted for a number of financial institutions on large scale contentious matters, often with a cross-border element. Recent experience includes acting for Société Générale in defending a multi-billion dollar claim brought by the Libyan Investment Authority. That matter - which was successfully settled in 2017 - saw significant regulatory interest, including from the United States Department of Justice. Ben frequently acted on Commercial Court matters, advised on foreign criminal proceedings with a UK aspect and is familiar with complex financial products (e.g. structured products and ISDA Master Agreements).

Ben acted for a broad range of financial institutions on civil litigation and contentious regulatory matters. He advised on complex finance disputes and investigations and gained significant experience of high value, large scale matters often with a multi-jurisdictional dimension. Ben's experience included acting for an investment bank in respect of an investigation into the alleged rigging of benchmarks in the multi-trillion dollar a day foreign exchange market. He also acted for another investment bank in relation to allegations of bribery and corruption arising out of a large debt securitisation.

Ben acted for a range of clients, from financial institutions and insolvency practitioners to individuals.Ben's experience included advising banks, liquidators and receivers on all manner of issues, usually involving a contentious element. Ben advised a large international private equity fund in a contentious hive down of a media group. He also frequently advised receivers and banks on highly contentious large scale administration sales and proceedings. Ben appeared multiple times as an advocate in both the High Court and Court of Appeal of New Zealand, including on what was at the time the leading case on a key interpretive issue on the New Zealand companies legislation.In addition, Ben was president of the firm's social committee and was tasked with organising events for staff and managing budgets.
