    I worked at Bridgestone, Tokyo as an Industrial Designer. I designed various parts of track and mountain bikes, as well as electronic user interfaces.Apart from improving my Japanese to a fairly high standard, I also learnt that my body is not suited to long and regular bouts of heavy drinking. Being the only foreigner, my inability to hold alcohol became the stuff of legend.I think it is fair to say that I am an extremely poor drinker. ***Pro tip #1****: if you are also a poor drinker like me and you're stuck in a bar looking down the barrel of a long night and a warm pot of sake, casually pick up the お絞り or hot towel and wipe your face, then as you put it down make sure one corner flops into your sake cup. It will gradually suck out all of the sake. Just make sure you don't wipe your face with that hot towel again.***Pro tip #2****: if you are stuck in an impromptu drinking competition with your Japanese boss, don't think that just because his face has turned bright red he is even remotely drunk.
