The Small Business Development Center, hosted by College of the Canyons, is an SBA affiliated small business consulting, training and research service for the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys. The COC SBDC employs fifteen expert business advisors who provide entrepreneurs with professional advice, coaching and the tools of success through short term and extended consulting engagements and trainings. Thanks to the SBA and our other financial sponsors, consulting services are provided at no cost to the small business community.I have now served more than 600 local small businesses with professional business consulting services. These local small businesses range from start ups to 50 year old multi-generation companies with sales exceeding $20 million in nearly every possible industry, from manufacturing of aerospace parts to retail and etail of both products and services.

Teaching Spring 2014 a senior business course on Small Business Consulting. Small groups of students will take on a real local small business as a client and write a new business plan for them including providing a series of recommendations on they might best proceed. It is a challenging course that culminates with a one hour client presentation of the student findings and a 50+ page business plan report. This will be my forth year teaching within the Wells Fargo Center for Small Business and Entrepreneurship at CSUN.Taught Strategic Management and Introduction to American Business for undergraduates and MBA course on Small Business Consulting.

Former Chair of the Small Business Commission for Los Angeles County to help local small business enterprises maximize their success in two key ways: First, to provide recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and others to increase the dollar value each year of purchases by the County from local small businesses. Second, to minimize restrictions, red tape or other issues that can reduce the potential for success of local small businesses. A local small business is broadly defined as having less than $14 million in annual gross sales. Represented Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.

Provided licensing, negotiation and related services for home video / DVD distribution and theatrical production of animated series and content on a range of projects.

Sales representative for Taurus, a corrugated and permanent display company, to the home entertainment / DVD and music divisions of the movie studios and independent entertainment companies in the Los Angeles area. Sold millions of dollars of displays for use at Wal-Mart, Costco and other national chain retailers. Customers included the home video or music divisions of Universal, Paramount, Disney, etc. as well as Ubisoft and other video game publishers.

Owner for 7 years building small home video publisher from $1mm to $10mm before selling it back to partner. Expertise was to bring good content tied to major brand labels to the mass consumer home video market.

Provided consulting services to Pres to restructure marketing department before hiring full time VP Mkting. Then consulted to restructure sales department before promoting VP Sales. Then consulted to Ops to restructure, reduce costs and prepare company overall for rapid growth. Years later, major changes are still in place for this successful video game designer and publisher.

VP Sales during rapid growth, changing from commissioned reps to direct sales team and direct sales to retail. Sales increases over 40% per year while introducing many new titles and formats.

Started and ran home video division for 7 years from start up to nearly $200 million in sales and more profitable than Disneyland. Lead a team of 50 people including many who now run video or other divisions for other studios including DreamWorks, Paramount and Universal. A great time to help found and build an exciting industry with rapid change and wondrous opportunities. 10% market share in spite of 1% theatrical market share - accomplished with a great team.
