Growing up, I developed a strong passion for health, fitness and nutrition. In school, I spent more time thinking about fitness than I did studying for exams. This passion led me to pursue a degree in Chiropractic, where I set out to learn as much as I could about the human body. Before Chiropractic school, I spent years reading up on fitness, health, and injury. I also worked as a personal trainer for half a year. I was confident in my knowledge of health, fitness and even pain and injury. What I thought was a huge head start turned out to be massive Dunning-Kruger syndrome.One year in university and a few injuries later, all my preconceived ideas were shattered. I realised how complex the body is, how complex pain is and how foolish I was to think pain could be easily fixed with X stretch or Y exercise. This started me on a journey to understand pain, and how to help people with pain.I decided to start my own practice after university, to apply the principles that I learned over this journey, to help people make sense of their pain. I know how painful it is when we can't do the things we love because of pain. I've had a taste of the discouragement, anger and hopelessness persistent pain and a belief that we are broken can bring. Pain has the power to change who we are. It can threaten to rob us of joy, fun and meaning. It can affect our mood, our relationships, and how we see the world. It is a powerful force. And unless we understand at least a little about how it works, it'll bend us to its will.I still don't fully understand pain, and I probably never will. I am not an expert. I can't magically fix pain with my hands or my words. But I think I've learned enough about it to help people, and I will keep on learning. I enjoy helping people get pain relief, but what truly brings me joy is helping people get their lives back. Helping people get back to doing things that bring them meaning, pain or no pain. In my book, that's what Chiropractors do. We don't fix pain. We help people who have pain live better lives.
