As a volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officer I am on call to: help rescue people trapped on the coast, for example on cliffs, stuck in mud or in the water; search for missing people; report and deal with pollution and other hazards such as abandoned marine pyrotechnics or ordnance; help other emergency services and local authorities during emergencies like flooding; gather information for the coastguard operations centre; go to schools, clubs and other public places to tell people about staying safe at sea and along the coast; and carry out duties for the Receiver of Wreck, for example dealing with wreckage or dead whales and dolphins on the shoreline.

I fill dual roles as a webinar and interactive platform specialist and digital events producer. As a digital events producer, I act as a lead role in coordinating all internal webinars, digital roundtables and workshops including events produced for external audiences for marketing purposes. I am responsible for working closely with the AV technical team for on-demand webinar recordings, producing conceptual digital event products and ensuring ODI branding reflects its virtual and 'digital first' status. I am responsible for ensuring that all metrics, both audience and performance data, are accurately tracked and monitored for reporting purposes.

Previously engaged in a six month internship with Green Alliance, assisting the Director of Communications on a range of tasks including website editing and maintenance, use of social media and press monitoring.I helped with day-to-day updating of the Green Alliance website: text changes, layout, image editing and creating new pages. I also worked to maintain existing website content by checking grammar and spelling to ensure consistency of copy and house style and by reporting bugs and faults to the website developers.I produced a monthly data analysis report on the Green Alliance website and publications using statistics from Google Analytics and Issuu to highlight successes and trends for the policy meetings. Alongside is a monthly evaluation of press coverage and online communications using statistics Twitonomy and Bitly.I assisted with Green Alliance's online communications strategy, reviewing the Wikipedia and Facebook pages and making use of Twitter to drive traffic to the website and blog. Along with the other interns I compile a daily environmental media report, manage the Green Alliance press file and record any coverage of the charity.I also assisted the Events Coordinator in organising Green Alliance's 35th anniversary celebration and organised a publication launch event at the Royal Institute of British Architects. As part of the anniversary celebration I contacted 35 people involved with Green Alliance, from MPs to former interns, and asked one question each about what they valued most about working with the organisation. Their responses were collected into a commemorative website: http://www.green-alliance.org.uk/35for35th/# Other duties included answering the main telephone line and front door, managing the general email address and opening and sending post.Through this internship I gained good experience and insight into communications and website development, management and analysis

Engaged on a rolling casual contract with the BBC News Channel, my daily tasks included researching and writing scripts on wide-ranging topics, editing media and booking guests.I also generated graphics and astons such as maps, infobursts and image stacks to accompany interviews and other on-screen media.I worked both individually and as part of a small team to tight hourly deadlines, liaising with other BBC departments to book satellite links and studios, and making contact with private and public figures to arrange live and recorded interviews.Other responsibilities included booking and looking after guests for the BBC News Channel programme discussing the next day's newspaper front pages, The Papers.I worked on the coverage of several high-profile and breaking news events such as the London 2012 Olympic Games and the 2013 helicopter crash in Glasgow.

Responsible for the Westerham edition - sourcing, researching and writing stories for pages 1,3 and 5 on topics from local governance to human interest and campaigns.I gained valuable experience working as part of a team to meet strict daily deadlines under pressure and was able to build and maintain relationships and community links vital to the newsgathering process.Along with news articles I produced a series of light-hearted features in a periodic column, Challenge Ben.I also supported and launched local campaigns around issues including the route of the Olympic Torch, a proposal for a new cemetery and road safety.While at the Sevenoaks Chronicle I helped set up and run the newspaper's social media profiles on Twitter and on Facebook and used my personal account to further audience reach and interaction.I was afforded further responsibility by my appointment to Health and Safety Officer, taking part in biannual conference calls and reporting any concerns about the office environment.

I worked at the Kent and Sussex Courier every Friday on placement while attending a journalism training course before being offered a full time paid internship.I wrote news articles and features, represented the newspaper during open "meet the reporter" sessions, conducted surveys and voxpops and gained valuable insight into a working newsroom.While working as an intern I built up community links and relationships leading to a front page story based on information provided anonymously from a trusted source.
