UMKC Enactus brings together a diverse network of students, academic professionals and industry leaders around the shared mission of creating a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business. At UMKC, this group consists of over 80 students from across campus creating projects that have an impact on their community. UMKC Enactus has received recognition at end-of-year competitions for the impact of their projects that utilize entrepreneurial processes to do social good. Since taking over the program, the UMKC Enactus team has finished in the final four of the Enactus USA National Competition in multiple years, with an all-time high of 2nd place. The program has been redeveloped and refocused as an incubator of sustainable and impactful social ventures and a producer of top talent for the Kansas City job market. The program has become a key piece of the entrepreneurship ecosystem at UMKC and an essential piece of UMKC’s engagement with the community. In 2020, Ben Williams was awarded the Jack Kahl Entrepreneurial Leadership Award for the Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow of the Year.

Since 1870, Gillis has been dedicated to serving the needs of children and families of Kansas City. Gillis’ services have undergone many changes over the years. From our beginnings as a support service for families following the Civil War, to our years as an orphanage, to the current focus of assisting troubled children and their families to become healthy and self-sufficient, we have remained steadfast to our original mission of helping the “needy and distressed” of Kansas City. We're excited to announce that we have fully united with the other legacy agencies in our Cornerstones of Care Family for the next step in our journey together - becoming one organization as of January 1, 2017.
