I am a Senior Lecturer in Edicational Development at within the Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development at Oxford Brookes University. I teach on the EXPLORE programme for colleagues to achieve fellowship of Advance HE, facilitate workshops for academic staff and am contributing to the university’s academic advising (personal tutoring) review.

Recognising the growing call for the professionalisation of personal tutoring and academic advising in the UK Higher Education sector, UKAT is coordinating the sharing of best practice in personal tutoring and academic advising. We strive to improve the training, development and everyday practice of tutors and advisors.We provide a highly popular FREE webinar programme entitled Tutoring Matters for 2019 and are supporting the development of the UK’s first Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education which focuses on academic advising and tutoring.My vision for the UKAT Professional Development Committee is for our professional development offer and activities to:• be underpinned by the UKAT Professional Framework for Advising and Tutoring – this competency framework for advisors/tutors is a highly welcome and needed development. It provides a set of quality standards for tutoring and advising practice • promote the professional recognition of tutors and advisors – the aforementioned framework also serves the purpose of being the basis for this recognition • be research informed - using the latest and leading research on tutoring and translating this into professional development opportunities • represent the leading and collective development for tutors and advisors in the sector – through UKAT and beyond we have a national network of colleagues involved in tutoring professional development and would utilise this for the benefit of the sector• provide activities, guidance and resources which are highly useful to members in supporting and enhancing their tutoring and advising practice – through significant experience in all these aspects, I believe I have knowledge of support for tutoring which has proven impact and enhances practice

I am a Senior Lecturer at The University of Lincoln and am the lead for the HEFCE funded research project, ‘Intervention for Success’, at this institution. The project aims to enhance the support and interventions given to HE students through academic personal tutoring.

I am course leader and teacher on the PGCE and CertEd courses in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University.

I have co-responsibility for the personal tutoring and coaching of learners at The Sheffield College. Along with fellow managers, I implemented and oversee the college's centralised tutorial system and manage a team of specialised personal tutors ('Tutorial Mentors') who have the responsibility for supporting learners through tracking and monitoring, one to ones, group tutorials and positive engagement. As such, I am charged with the task of improving the key performance indicators of retention, success, attendance and punctuality, value-added and internal and external progression.

I was responsible for A Level English Language, English Literature, English Language and Literature, GCSE English provision. I also taught A Level English Language. As a member of the college observation team, I observed, graded and provided developmental feedback to general and vocational education Lecturers across The Sheffield College. I was involved in the Recruitment and selection of Lecturing staff and had responsibility for the quality review system for the English department.

My full-time teaching comprised of teaching A Level English Language, A Level English Literature and GCSE English along with Skills for Life (Literacy in a vocational context). I was subject leader in A Level English Language with responsibility for curriculum development and disseminating good practice. I was also a personal tutor. During my time at Chesterfield College I carried out the post of interim Operational Manager (Support for Students) promoting a new structure for tutorials and overseeing tutorial schemes of work and resources.

After my PGCE placement at Rother Valley College I worked there as a part-time lecturer in English teaching on the Access Study Support programme and was involved with curriculum development. As a trainee, I taught A Level English Language, English Literature, Access English Literature, Study Support, Key Skills Communication and 'open learning' English (one to one tutorials) along with carrying out curriculum development and constructing a study support booklet for distance learners.

I delivered seminars on the Introduction to Advanced Literary Study module (BA (Hons) English Literature) to undergraduate students.
