Bart Epstein is an education entrepreneur with experience driving growth by every measurable metric. Named one of the Top 100 Influencers in EdTech by EdTech Magazine, Bart enjoyed a few months of what his kids called a "Sabb-bart-ical" in 2023 before launching Brains & Motion Education (BAM!)After founding and leading the University of Virginia's edtech accelerator and venture fund for several years, Bart observed a serious structural flaw in our nation’s education system and decided to do something about it. With the support of more than 250 leading investors, entrepreneurs, district leaders, philanthropists, and policy makers, Bart launched the EdTech Evidence Exchange to (a) build national consensus on how to measure school implementation environments; (b) build a platform to collect edtech product feedback from tens of thousands of educators; and (c) create a system to use philanthropy dollars to pay cash stipends to participating educators. Prior to tackling this gargantuan challenge, Bart spent ten years helping to build Tutor.com, the world’s first online tutoring company. There, Bart served as Chief Strategy Officer, General Counsel, and General Manager of the program that provides unlimited free tutoring to every child with a parent serving in the U.S. military, via a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense that Bart negotiated and managed.Earlier in his career Bart was instrumental in the growth of The Princeton Review. In addition to successfully teaching and tutoring hundreds of high school and college students, Bart traveled the country opening and running new Princeton Review offices in more than a dozen cities where he trained new teachers and managed operations.Bart earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a J.D. from the University of Virginia, where he was an editor of the Virginia Law Review and a John M. Olin Scholar for Law & Economics. Bart served as a law clerk to the former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit before working as a corporate attorney for Latham & Watkins.A frequent commentator about the importance of valuing merit over marketing in the selection of education technologies, Bart has written for The Hill, The Hechinger Report, EdSurge, The 74, and many others. He served on the board of ISTE + ASCD on the boards of numerous education technology startups, nonprofits, and growth-stage companies.
