The Netherlands eScience Center tries to help scientists do research when it requires more data or computers than they know how to handle themselves.These projects are with principal investigators from dutch universities, we supported their research by developing appropriate research software.Currently my main role is that of Scrum Master of Team Cat in which I am also a team member. Within this team I support my team members to work in an effective manner so we can deliver as much value to the researchers we work with as we can.As a member of the team, I am also an eScience research engineer. In this capacity I have worked on numerous projects in many different research disciplines including Social Sciences, Computer Science, Climate Science and Humanities. Both in team cat and before this team was created in 2020.My tasks for these projects included advising on (eScience) techniques, programming, and setting up and maintaining development infrastructure. The focus of this work was on creating sustainable open-source solutions that help scientists take their research to the next level.Next to the activities directly related to projects I was also involved in the development of generic eScience Tools, participated in several cross-organizational knowledge groups (SIGs), developed lesson materials (in particular, for an introductory Deep Learning Course), and Teaching.

The subject of my research was the evolution of robot organisms; the idea behind this was to allow robots to evolve their bodies and minds to adapt to their environment and tasks. To conduct my research I developed, tested and compared algorithms for such systems in simulation. These algorithms typically used an evolutionary paradigm, but some included machine learning techniques. Furthermore I developed a complete ecosystem of robot organisms in which the bodies and minds of these robot organisms evolved using the previously developed techniques. The programming language used was C++. Analyses of the results were done using a combination of bash scripting, Gnuplot and Matlab.In addition I assisted in two courses: Data Mining and Heuristics, furthermore I supervised and co-supervised several bachelor and master projects.
