Berit Gundersen has now tried to retire twice, but as her kids keep saying - she has too much love for the University of the Pacific to say a lasting goodbye. After a brief retirement period, Berit is back in full swing as the Interim Dean of the TJL School of Pharmacy at the University of the Pacific. When Berit is not at work, you can find her tending her garden, walking her dog, or Facetiming with her two-year-old grandson. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲.Berit joined the faculty of the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy in 1986 – her dream come true. As a Pacific alumna, it was an honor to join the faculty that provided her with such an excellent education. Berit’s first position in the Department of Pharmacy Practice was Assistant Clinical Professor; she moved to the tenure track in 1988 and earned the rank of Professor in 2005. Berit had the opportunity to serve in many roles at Pacific over the years: Director of Pre-Health programs in the TJL School of Pharmacy (2002-2007), Assistant Provost for Curriculum and Administration, then Associate Provost for Educational Effectiveness (2007-2014), Vice-Provost for Faculty Affairs (2015-2018), Vice-Provost, Incubator (2018-2020), and Interim Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences(2020-2021). During the later part of Berit’s career, she co-led the team supporting the launch of Pacific’s new School of Health Sciences and the development of new health care programs. Berit’s commitment to higher education and community development at Pacific has left a lasting impact across Pacific’s three campuses and many schools. She can’t believe it's been 35 years of service at Pacific, and she can’t imagine her life without being a part of the Pacific family. Go Tigers!
