I was a curious child who wanted to know how everything worked. I would often stay home when my family went out, pretending to be sick, so that I could dismantle the TV and other household appliances. My spare time was spent building things with batteries, bulbs, motors - and being occasional electrocutions. We did not had an air conditioner while I was growing up. Curiosity would keep me awake during the warm muggy nights. I used to walk around the house with a thermometer, trying to figure out ways to cool the house down using the least amount of electricity (such as using the cooler pond water from in front of our home and circulating the cooler air from outside). It has been a passion of mine since childhood to develop a more passive air conditioner that does not compromise comfort. Upon completing my engineering degree, I had the privilege of working on several engineering projects in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Nigeria. These experiences, along with my upbringing (my mother taught us to live a life that helps others rather than building a big home and seeking riches), led me to start an engineering and construction business to provide essential MEP building services to hospitals serving the poorest of the poor people in rural India. It was so rewarding to see the impact of our team’s work and to see people have access to necessary and safe medical care. Often, the cost of heating and cooling in buildings is over three times that of other loads combined. In Australia, for example, arround 60% of people pay over $4000 in energy bills yearly, most of which is spent on heating, cooling, and hot water. Not only does it cost us a lot of money, but by the time we go to bed and wake up, with heating and cooling, we emit over 6 kg of global warming gases. To tackle this problem head-on, I developed a new innovative system and, thus, Totex was born out of necessity and to fulfil my childhood passion. So, here I am in Australia, building Totex with an incredible team to make a global impact, cutting energy costs and our global warming emissions. Life is a team sport.
