Bernadette Gammad, a Filipino international student at New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) Miramichi campus taking-up a certificate program in Accounting and Payroll Administration for Fall 2019. This independent and reliable woman was born and raised in the Philippines. Bernadette earned her degree in Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology from Our Lady of the Pillar College-Cauayan, Philippines in the year 2014. She worked as a bookkeeper in Equity Motorcycles Inc., an auditor in Honda Cars Isabela, an accounting staff in Agricomp Machineries and Construction, and as an accounting assistant in Crowntech Corporation—these companies are all situated in the Philippines. For almost 5 years of working, her main roles are to support the Accounting Department of the company by performing such as posting transaction using accounting software SAGE, review and summarize company transactions, generating financial reports, assisting in tax audits and reports, preparation of Cash Disbursement, track monthly expenses and producing monthly to year-end reports—these are just some of her experiences. Also, Bernadette, can assist some administrative and HR works well, because she is a kind of employee who can adapt easily, can do multitasks better and work under pressure.Bernadette’s decision to study here at Canada is rooted on her desire to improve more herself professionally by gaining international credentials, knowledge, and experiences. NBCC’s teaching strategy, specifically in Accounting and Payroll Administration, is focused on providing her knowledge and developing skills that will be used in the actual work settings. Thus, made her realize that these learnings and skills can be put into practice especially here in New Brunswick. Bernadette believes that, being able to use these skills in the real world will eventually help to attain her desired professional and personal growth which can definitely help her increase self-worth. Moving in a new environment tends to be difficult, however with the support of the community and the government, it becomes easier and eventually allow Bernadette to visualize her stable future especially here in New Brunswick.
